BTW- I don't want to imply that they are not enforcing the previous closures (such as quarter mile), but those closures went through whatever process is required to get them closed, the MAP has not, as far as the Lt. was concerned.

My understanding from other sources is that the FAQ is legit, but don't think it has been officially released. Also, just a heads up, I spoke directly to the Lt. at District 1 and he confirmed that the current MAP is not being enforced. He basically told me that they are not concerned with...

ORV Management In Sensitive Areas Of Wharton

Hi all, I had a busy weekend this weekend. I know my way around Google Earth a bit so I brought the "MAP" into google earth as an overlay and plotted all the open and closed roads and measured them all. Then I overlaid a Topo and picked up all those pesky roads that DEP seemed to forget about...

How did you get your screen name?

In college my roommates and I used to affectionately call each other names, usually progressively becoming more offensive. At one point in time I called them "chooch" (ie jackass) and they called me something more offensive. What is more offensive than a "chooch"? Why a "super chooch" of course...

We talked a little about this, what we have to be careful of is the DEP trying to cut an access deal with only the hunters. They are a powerful lobby and this would remove a lot of pressure. Other than that angle, I think our interests and the NJOA are aligned.

    Dedicated GPS vs. iPhone/Gaia GPS

Holy Mackerel, how do I even find the 1995 files on that site? On the search screen, what is the "content type" and "content theme"? I seem either get 100 results or no results when I try different searches.

    Dedicated GPS vs. iPhone/Gaia GPS

Ok, so I'm a maps newbie so bear with me. :-) Guy, The GPS reception is surprisingly good with the iPhone 4, I don't think I've ever had an issue. The lack of the ability to attach a lanyard is definitely something I was looking at. I had considered drilling some holes or using those 3M...

    Dedicated GPS vs. iPhone/Gaia GPS

So I'm always looking at new gadgets and wondered what folks thought of the benefits of a dedicated GPS vs my solution, which is: A old iPhone 4 that I don't use anymore, no data plan A waterproof, impact resistant battery case (gets me a full day even under high usage) The Gaia GPS The...

Industrial Archaeology of the Best Kind!

That is super cool. It is sometimes hard to visualize these places when you just look at the ruins. This really helps. Does anyone know if there was a water wheel to power the furnace bellows as well?

    A Perfect Minute

After everything that has been taken from us in the last two weeks, I went down to Lock's Bridge early this AM to reflect on what we do have. :-). A perfect minute. Beautiful weather, sky and no man made sounds, whatsoever.

Regardless of the site, it certainly represents a step forward in terms of ease of use, compared to the method I had written up. And, given the PPA's email this AM, we need to generate as much traffic as possible, because you can bet that some of the PPA faithful will blindly click their...
