    Best Kayaking/Canoeing Lakes in Pines?

How do the people who live there, access their property? Is there a driveway out to 49? Or to the back of the shooting range? I can't quite tell from the aerial view and I don't remember seeing anything driving by on 49, other than those guardrails where the old tracks used to cross.

    Best Kayaking/Canoeing Lakes in Pines?

I've tried driving west under the power lines from Union Rd but couldn't get through. There are a few houses in a clearing in those woods, way back there, with a very long driveway south out to 49. See...

    Best Kayaking/Canoeing Lakes in Pines?

Little known fact but the Menantico Ponds used to have a rail spur, and small switching/loading yard for sand cars. It teed into the main line slightly southeast of the boat launch and ran northwest, crossing what is now the access road and terminating just south of 49. You can see its remnants...

    Best Kayaking/Canoeing Lakes in Pines?

From Menantico Ponds about three hours ago. Just beat the rainstorm. Lots of kayakers out there despite the poor weather forecast.

Washington Tpke 745 acre thinning bid

A few more from the same day: Recent burn near Mount. This guy was squished near Quaker Bridge. Riders Switch, south of Hampton's Furnace. The road is blocked maybe 100 yards in, but there are fresh bulldozer tracks. Hampton's Trestle

Washington Tpke 745 acre thinning bid

Wow, forty years and almost everything is the same, except for the seasons. Took this one later that same day, on the CNJ near Hampton's trestle. Leah is six, and a pretty good explorer.

    Light Day In The Barrens

I recently saw a guy in a Ford Explorer, pulling a trailer full of what looked like trash, get pulled over at the intersection of Stokes and Hampton roads. I don't know what he was up to, or how the traffic stop played out, but it did look like he was on his way into the woods to dump some...

Washington Tpke 745 acre thinning bid

I wouldn't be surprised if the SF police start watching the area and issuing speeding citations. That guy behind me was a jerk. I was going plenty fast myself. This was at the ruins at Washington's Tavern (see attached pic). Caught my kid about to take a tumble into the old cellar hole, just a...

Washington Tpke 745 acre thinning bid

Old thread, I know. Spent a good amount of time up and down this section last sunday and some more time looking at it on the map. I hadn't been on Washington Turnpike since summertime 2016, and the difference is really drastic. It looks like some work is still being conducted out there...

    RAIN?

The weather was decent during the day (while i was working, naturally) but the downpours began shortly after I got home. Planning on doing a little exploring in the area of Batsto tower- washington tpk- penn swamp rd tomorrow. Hopefully the roads and trails aren't too squishy. Last time i tried...

    Hot Today

Had a sudden hail storm last night around 6:30 pm that really pummeled the house and cars. Wasn't even time to run out and move my truck to the garage. The funny thing was, when I called my friend who lives one mile down the road and said "look outside, are you seeing this?" he answered "seeing...

Tornado watch issued as South Jersey awaits damaging winds, large hail

It was coming down really hard. We managed to get stuck in the mud.... in Woodbury Heights, less than a mile from home. Was trying to take a shortcut out the back of the ice cream stand on Elm ave. Ruined a new pair of shoes that way.

    Lawn mowers

I have the B&D Li-Ion string trimmer, which gets the job done, and prevents me from having to mix up 50:1. I work on vehicles for a living and the last thing I want to do on my free time is tinker with little gas engines that don't want to start, so eliminating that hassle is valuable to me...

    Those durn GPS

There is one place that gps-aided navigation really excels, and that is using crowdsourced data to gather information on real-time traffic conditions. Waze and google maps tend to have pretty accurate travel time estimates, and all that data is a treasure trove for planners of future highways...

Tough goings; but great times at Friendship Bogs

They must have cleared along the Batsto just in the past week, because as of Sunday the 15th, it was nothing but downed trees every few feet. This was along the upstream section, between Hampton's and Quaker Bridge. Someone must have been very industrious with a chainsaw!
