    Oak leaf drop

You might have just missed the tiny compartment where the larvae was. The galls on oak leaves have just one small larvae in the center, while the more woody galls on the twigs, caused by a different species, produce numerous individual insects. You are right in that galls are usually not harmful...

Two Bear Sightings Reported In Winslow Township

I somewhat agree. It is nice to note and be enthusiasctic about what is still a fairly rare occurance in the southern part of the state, but it's certainly nothing to get worked up about. In the northern part of the state a bear crossing the road gets about as much concern as a squirrel does.

    Webbs Mill boardwalk

I have mixed feelings on this. On one hand the boardwalk railings certainly imply you should stay on the walkway, even if the officially regulations do not state as much. I'm always bothered by those thinking rules are for others. On the other hand, the feature that makes this site worth...

    rare bird sighting

There is currently a White-winged Dove at the nature center feeders at Wells Mills County Park in Waretown. Can't say how long he will stay. Get him while he's hot!

New Guy Wants to Talk Kayaks and Canoes

If you want a short, easy river trip with few obstructions I'd sugggest the Rancocas, from the put-in at Burlington County College downstream to Rt. 616. It doesn't get much easier than that. A slight step up in difficulty once you are more confident would be the Wading, perhaps Evans Bridge to...

    Waterfowl ID help

A Grebe for sure. Perhaps a Red-necked Grebe in non-breeding plumage. I haven't seen enough of them to be positive.

    Walpack for the weekend

It's still too early for me to hit the major streams. I prefer the solitude of later in the season. I have a few tiny streams I fish before then that get little pressure, some even containing wild brookies, but for now I occupy myself at the fly tying desk.

Nah, too small. It's the millpond for the Susquehanna Hat Company.

    Photo Archives--Forked River Mountain Coalition

Very easy to do indeed Guy. I'm glad I no longer do slide presentations. I was forever apologizing for upsidedown and backwards slides after making last-minute changes to the caruosel. I might not have even not caught the windows in the newer addition being on the wrong side, but the...

"Hidden Lakes" in NJ Pine Barrens???

I agree. Whether off-road or on, I feel like I am more one with my truck and have a better feel for the road and conditions when I am tightly strapped in.
