    'Lost' rainbow toad rediscovered

I remember how loud those summer woods were with frogs. I don't know if it's ever like that any more.

John McPhee quoted in another Marilyn Schmidt article (front page of Inky)

Thanks for posting that. I used to stop by the old original Busby's. Can't they incorporate it into the State Park system, a historical building, like those in Batsto?

What's the statute of limitations on swiping cranberries in NJ?

In retrospect I think that's what that feller I mentioned above may have been doing, and then an overly good good samaritan, me, came along out of nowhere . Good thing you said Maverick or I'd think that might have been you!

What's the statute of limitations on swiping cranberries in NJ?

It's probably still seldom visited there. I didn't see any evidence that anyone had been on or around the road I was stuck on for a very long time, no tire tracks, no footprints, no garbage, nothing. That thought was in my mind as I was up to my shoulder squeezed under the car trying to dig it...

can you help me find these ruins?

Do you have them? Is that member still here? If so could you scan them? Did you see writing on the side of the truck? I just looked again, and think you're right. I also wanted to see what it's loaded with, and what's propped against the tree on the left. It looks like an old refrigerator.

    From Crosswicks to Walnford

Nice. Besides hiking and camping and canoeing in the Barrens I used to go on long bicycle trips in south central NJ on into PA. I used to like it around Princeton before the roads got too busy. Cranbury was my favorite starting place. Crosswicks was sometimes on my route. Another Meeting...

What's the statute of limitations on swiping cranberries in NJ?

Getting towed. When my low slung rented car got bogged down in that remote part of the Barrens for two days 6 or 8 years ago (appropriately enough near Lost Lane), and I finally hiked out 8 miles through the Air Force bombing range ("All persons are forbidden to enter!!!") in the rain, and a...

can you help me find these ruins?

When I get back home I'll scan that Friendship color slide at maximum detail. See if there's anything of interest in the blowups.

1960's NY Times travel article on the NJ Pine Barrens

Thanks, fellers. Re that photo of yours, Guy, I remember a very big fire down there back in the 70's - and then just a month or two later it was remarkable how green and beautiful the place was. Those pitch pines just love fire, don't they! Good research on I H Gordon, Guy. I like canoes too...

What's the statute of limitations on swiping cranberries in NJ?

Reminds me of one of my slightly stranger PB misadventures. I came across a feller deep in the woods whose VW fastback had bogged down in the sand and I tried to help him try to dig it out, but it was in too deep, and maybe he didn't really want it out. Anyway, it was still there a few months...

    4 Rattlesnakes Along a Road

To me the only menace that I found in the Barrens was TICKS. Those woods are teeming with them. How do you guys deal with that?

1960's NY Times travel article on the NJ Pine Barrens

You're welcome! It's very well written and it's what first brought the Barrens to my attention. I had never heard of it before. And the Plains is still the most intriguing part of the Barrens for me. Big sky all around. You can't believe you're in New Jersey! I have these old photos of me...
