The REAL Hen of The Woods

I recently met someone from Illinois who is a mushroom hunter. I've alway heard about chicken and gen if the woods. I never realized they were two different types until he showed me the difference. I sent him some pictures and he identified them for me. Though I still wouldn't attempt to eat them.

    Food for thought--the can sandwich

I'd try it. It looks like a good thing to keep in your bag as an emergency. Something that will satisfy hunger but doesn't need to stay cold or will get crushed in the bottom of your bag. Fighting forest fires out west I always kept a MRE in the bottom of my day pack. I was thankful to have it...

    Pinelands Adventures offering canoe hunting

It was posted last week. Yesterday it made it to social media. After it being a hot topic for a day it was deleted from Craig's list. Logistically it would have never worked.

Alleged vandals arrested at N.J. landmark closed due to vandalism

I alway thought that $200 was a very low estimate to close off the tower. Kind of like when I buy something without my wife's permission it leaves less explaining when it was cheap;)

Alleged vandals arrested at N.J. landmark closed due to vandalism

They must have done a lot more damage then the fence. According to this article it cost $200 to install the whole thing and they did over $1000 in damages. http://pinebarrenstribune.com/dep-officials-restrict-public-access-to-famed-apple-pie-hill-fire-tower-p293-165.htm

    Spotlight Article on Off-Roading

If the DEP wanted that information all they would have do is tell the FFS to gather up the info for them. The FFS works under the DEP.

    Spotlight Article on Off-Roading

Thats the big question. Are the number of violations up because of increased activity or the result of increased patrols? Either way this study is the baseline for future decisions. As thorough as it is, the study by itself can't prove when these problem areas started. Some are likely 20 years...

It It looks very thorough and there is a lot of good info there. It's a good base line for future studies to see what is working and what is not.

The real study is posted on the home page of the Pinelands Commission. Apparently they are not afraid and aren't withholding information http://www.nj.gov/pinelands/home/presentations/10%2014%202016%20Wharton%20Disturbed%20Sites%20slides.pdf

I don't either but there has been not been a PLC study done outside of Wharton yet. The problem is in the article itself. The image provided is misleading to title of the article which is Pinelands Commission Releases Damage Report for Wharton State Forest.

My point exactly. I'm not saying there's not damage there but you are far from Wharton where the actual study happened.

Umm...I might be wrong but the article is about Wharton. The map that is included looks more like the entire southern half of the state. Might be misleading a bit....again:rolleyes:

    Public Question # 2.

They are just trying to appease the public with this gas tax. Nobody is happy with the increase but if they promise it goes where they said it was for most people will just say ok. Boyd is abosolutely right. This increase is to off set a $4 million deficit. If all the funds stay the same then it...

    Weekend Finds

That's interesting. Locust is used out west for fence posts because of its resistance to rot. I had a friend remove a couple trees from his yard and he gave me some of the wood. I was amazed how long it lasted. I saved a piece or two to use for a wood working project. I just haven't figured...
