Ironmaster Samuel P. Richards Original 1826 Sign from Atsion Mansion

Don, The funny thing about history is that those of us who love it want to "save" it. Save it to share with others, save it for generations after us, save it for research and justification, save it for the glory of solving century old questions and putting the pieces of the puzzle together...

Green Bank & Lower Bank had four multi-vehicle collisions during the 90 minute ice fiasco yesterday. A fire truck overturned in Medford on Rt. 206 en route to an accident. I heard that one of the fire company members from Medford Farms in critical condition.... It was very dangerous between...

The Mullica River: A Musical History

I love the haunting echoes of the strings and drums as they weave in and out of your fine tribute to the river. You should be proud of such a fine work. Thanks you so much for sharing it. Might I ask if this is the "final" revision of the piece we first heard at a Lines on the Pines event a...

    Tavern in Pleasant Mills, NJ

Gabe, This makes sense because Michael Garoutte died in 1829. Nicholas S. Thompson's will, 27 years later in 1856 leaves land, tavern house & hotel in Atlantic County. The hotel name is Pleasant Mills Hotel and it encompasses 13 acres. Terry

Lisa, Jerseyman posted a Henry Beck article in post #4 to this thread. In that article, there seems to be some question as to where Asher Dayton ended up....I just happened to see the name A. Dayton (maybe Asher, maybe not) on the 4th map that JM posted. Take a look at the 4th map (the one...

OK... I have a question and an observation... 1. Newton or Newtown, and how does this name come into play? On the 1812 map, Pine Creek is Pine Creek. In 1828 and 1872 the maps now read Newton or Pine Creek. Who was Newton? Did he come to the area after 1812, and if so, what part did he...

Ironmaster Samuel P. Richards Original 1826 Sign from Atsion Mansion

Ben.... About 10 years ago the "Fruitland" railroad sign was discovered while cleaning the Atsion office attic: under sheets of plywood, under the eaves, covered in heavy dust. To alleviate the fear of it being "misplaced", it was lightly wiped with a damp cloth and hung in the Atsion Office the...
