    Mudpie, Our area has the same issue with cell service. You can make/receive cell service (Verizon) on a small portion of our driveway. During Sandy and for days after (and the derecho, and Irene, etc.) I put a lawn chair in the driveway to make communication comfy. Texting has worked for us...
