Nice place to paddle and picnic

I thought you couldn't cross the Batsto River. Can you place the pointer? http://maps.njpinebarrens.com/#lat=39.64180131233001&lng=-74.65508222579956&z=15&type=k&gpx=

    The NEW Beer Thread

RUSH THE GROWLER Years ago my grandmother, who was born in 1899, told me of this expression my family used to encourage someone to bring home beer from the local tavern. This would be in the beginning of the 1900's in Jersey City. I think they used a bucket. rush the growler To go...

    For The John Lennon Fans

Nowhere that I know of, I just tried to view it with YouTube Downloader. I think that although it resides on YouTube, you can view it elsewhere if you have the URL. Flickr also hosts videos, although I haven't tried it yet. Maybe that would be a more friendly venue. It sounds like YouTube and...

    For The John Lennon Fans

Guy, I think it's the song. I don't see how anyone can own that song, it has become part of life itself, but thats Sony for ya. I got this error when I tried to view it other than at youtube.

    Kayaking the Mullica on Friday

Finally the weather improved and on Friday we decided to take a picnic lunch and kayak a short section of the Mullica below Atsion Lake. We did not start at 206 because the water is fast and the river is tight there and we did not want to spend our trip in the bushes. Instead we started a short...

    Impassible roads

The bridge at Hampton Furnace has been repaired. They are using cedar posts to hold the ties in place. They also dumped some fill in the holes in the road and made a real mess.

    Impassible roads

I drove by the canoe launch at Atsion this morning, it is still marked as " CLOSED TO PUBLIC USE". The river is fast and I wouldn't launch there right now. Too many twist and turns which will pin you aginst the banks. The road closed sign at Quaker Bridge Road is moved to the side.

    360 Panorama

Al, I have no problem downloading and viewing them, it took less than a minute. I know I haven't responded to your thread before but I have been following it with great interest. Not only does the panorama add dimension to your pictures but your locations are spectacular, you have a good eye...

    Traps and marshmellows

A place down the forest where we like to walk has allot of large, raccoon size, Have A Heart type traps baited with marshmellows. They're well marked and many traps can be seen from the roads we walk and drive. There were none on Thursday morning, but on Saturday we stopped counting at 64...

    Around Atsion And Other Things

That feed store is called Allen's, we shop there often. In the back where the feed is stored is a cement floor and stalls where the cows were milked. I like getting up close to the silo's, they are big and have light ports in them. I bought hay from Lester Eckert back in the 70's, it was lousy...

    Impassible roads

Quaker Bridge Road is open from 206 to the bridge, I think they just forgot to take down the sign after the Irene flood. If you enter where you would to go to the park office there is no sign, nor anywhere else. I drove to the bridge this past weekend and there is only one small issue. Just west...

    Kayaking at the Blue Hole

The Hunley was sunk off Charleston, SC., I think it was the Monitor off of Hatteras. The Mullica is what we call a brail dive, you have to feel your way. At 8 feet it was dark and even with a high powered light at best you could see 6 inches. Although not a cave dive we did do wreck penetration...
