A Fine Time For Fine Wine

I was looking at the wine list yesterday. I may pick up a bucket of Pinot Grigio. Scott, why no yeast?

Where is the OLDEST habited area of the Pinelands?

Are you defining the Pinelands as in the modern boundaries of the Pinelands National Reserve? I think most of the continuously settled places within that boundary sprung up in the 18th century. There wasn't really much reason for people to stay inside the Pinelands. Even the Lenape didn't...

Your Forest Under Attack: MAP Misinformation from the DEP

Oh, he preemptively blocked me from the Pine Barrens page a few weeks ago. I haven't banned him from here, though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ You can switch between the 1900 topo and the 2015 and 2023 MAP proposals on https://maps.njpinebarrens.com I don't see how this compares to the ACA but let's not get...

    An assault on our rights

Most towns have a "pay your taxes online" button that brings you to a page where you can enter in information to search for the property. https://bassriver-nj.org/offices/ Scroll down to "Visit Bass River Taxes Online to view and pay property taxes" I couldn't find anything for block 116 lot...

    An assault on our rights

Try at the local level. At the Bass River Township online tax payment office I was able to look for block 109 properties. It only came back with lot 11, but there's a qualifier that says "additional lots: many, see file." The Hainses own it.

Jersey's Lonely Pine Lands Lure Anglers Seeking Pike - 1930

Just came across this very short article from page 18 of the May 28, 1930 issue of the Camden Evening Courier. The author is not credited but I bet you one dollar it was the venerable Henry Charlton Beck, judging by the tone and slight snark. Jersey's Lonely Pine Lands Lure Anglers Seeking Pike...

NJ bag ban causing more plastic use

There's a bar by me that cards everyone regardless of how old they are. I guess it's probably easier and doesn't open them up to as much liability as if they let it up to the person at the door's discretion.

Resistance Grows to the New Plan to Close 200 Miles of Roads in Wharton State Forest

I thought they wanted to close firebreaks that were inadvertently turned into roads.

Petition to keep Wharton's Roads Open

I just got banned too. Haven't posted there in a while so he went out of his way to boot me. Despite my disagreement with him and his methods, though, his account here hasn't been banned or censored. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Resistance Grows to the New Plan to Close 200 Miles of Roads in Wharton State Forest

It's a talking point cooked up from Carleton Montgomery's little "GIS exercise" that he told Rob about back in 2015 when they were discussing how to strengthen the argument for the old MAP proposal. It's in the OPRA request that I got from Rob's emails back then. To my knowledge it's never been...

Petition to keep Wharton's Roads Open

https://www.opentrailsnj.org/petition/ Hi all - I encourage anybody who is interested in having the DEP scrap this new incarnation of their failed 2015 MAP (motorized access plan) and create an access map based on the 1997 USGS topographic maps as adopted by the Pinelands Commission in 2017...

Resistance Grows to the New Plan to Close 200 Miles of Roads in Wharton State Forest

    >"Environmentalists say those who frequently use illegal vehicles, such as quads, in the Pine Barrens-based forest, are most likely to oppose the plan to eliminate hundreds of miles of trails in the forest from a map used to delineate approved trails and roads within the state park." Yes...
