    It's Still There

Jon I fear you are in for a long walk to access the Swamp Monster. The best way to have drove in went off of 206 here http://maps.njpinebarrens.com/#lat=39.69909116443121&lng=-74.7523166577148&z=14&type=nj2015&gpx= But recently a person who doesn't even own the road has gated it here...

    ATSION CRANBERRY BOGS ABANDONED

I believe that map is from late 1800's but not sure.it would appear the road was there first unless they just neglected to show the bogs.

    ATSION CRANBERRY BOGS ABANDONED

Okay,The question is what was there first? 206 or the bogs? I just aeriald back to 31 and both were there then but it looks as if 206 may have been dirt? It's very white looking. Was the bogs built around the road using it as a dam? Or were the bogs already there and they availed themselves of the...

    More Rain This Year????

Guy you need a jacked up four wheel drive. Though I must admit you get more places in a low rider front wheel drive car then I"ve ever seen anybody else get to.I bet people are occasionally amazed when they see you in the barrens. They probably exclaim "How the hell did he get back here with...

Mannis Duck Pond on Jakes Branch

The island I frequent appears to be between the arms of the Mill Pond. There is nice islands both above and below where Springers dumps in.Not really islands but high dunes.Bet there was a bit of activity in those places to make them the humusless wonder lands they are today.

The Story of NJ Civil Boundaries 1606-1968

Well after checking the topos it appears the location of the granite monuments and apparently the accompanying stones are marked right on the topos. At first i was confused and I thought the old line which favored New jersey further north was monumented but it doesn't appear so.It looks as if NJ...

The reason you have the evenly spaced semi circles is so they can practice getting their range and knowing exactly how far a target is.They used to have old tanks sitting out there they could drag around from place to place.

That end of the post is the artillery ranges. They used to be a bit north of there closer to the NE corner but that definitely looks like a new one.We used to bivouac exactly across the road (east) of there in boot camp when we did our 12 mile ruck march.

    Great Egg Harbor River Canoeing

I heard years ago that the New Brooklyn Williamstown section had been cleared. If it is it is a gorgeous section and down to Piney Hollow is also.My least favorite section would be from 54 to Weymouth not that the creek isn't pretty but the houses on the south bank and 322 noise makes it less...

Birds can see color as well as we can.Thats why the males are so colorful because the females are attracted to them.I don't believe a tree can manipulate it's own DNA.DNA is a code so therefore had to have a writer.I won't get into that here but I"d say the early fall foliage was written into...
