    Train Kills Mother, Two Children!

Truly, a sad story, to be sure. But a part of local history, nonetheless. Like George stated, the story is thick with irony. Thanx for listening (and posting). John-

    Pines Findings

It's a shame we didn't run into each other, Joe. The woods were pretty quiet around there. I only saw one other truck (parked). But, it was Tuesday, after all. I saw that glass also, but wasn't happy with the pic, so I didn't post it.

Archery Opens Statewide Oct. 3, 2009

The term "sport" for me means challenge. Hunting over a bait pile reduces that challenge. So do hunting clubs who "drive" their deer. I have nothing against these clubs, if that's what they enjoy. It's just that I prefer the solitude of a deer stand where it is just myself and the sights and...

Archery Opens Statewide Oct. 3, 2009

Scott- I agree 100%. If you're gonna use a crossbow, you might as well just hunt with a shotgun or muzzie. It takes all the stealth out of the sport of bowhunting. They may be trying to increase the clean kills, reducing the number of cripples. Or maybe, since most of the state is unlimited...

    MUSHROOMS IN THE PINES

I know virtually nothing about mushrooms, and I don't usually pay them much mind, as I only think of them as some sort of fungus. But this one actually caught my eye while I was hiking today. It may be the coolest 'shroom I ever saw. It was the only one of it's kind around, in fact it was the...

    Pines Findings

While hiking on/around Goodwater Rd today, I found this old truck cab on a dead end path. It had to have been there for years; it is in very bad condition. Not far away, across the path was a tire buried in the brush. I'm thinking they probably arrived together.

Bamber Lake area vandalized - but culprits caught!

w3504x4: Welcome to the forum. Here's a little word of advice for you. Always look at the date on the threads. There are many on this forum that have been put to bed a long time ago. They may be good for research, but posting a reply is kinda moot. John-

    Electrofishing A NJ Stream

I've read about noodling before, but never saw it. Thanx for posting this, Jeff. I'm not a big fan of catching those slimy devils on a hook and line, let alone alone sticking my arm down a hole so a 45lb cat will swallow it! I'll stick with my bass; easy to lip... easy to release. Or even...

    Music for the day

I remember seeing this when it was sung four years ago. It humbled everyone in the room then... it humbled me again today. Thank you for posting this, Jerseyman, and helping us all remember. John-

quickie paddle, woods walk, grass ID....

Great pics , Turtle. The "crik" shot with the clouds above is beautiful. Were you able to get near the structure in the second shot, or was it on the other side of the creek? Looks like an old duck blind. John-

    Yesterday morning in the bog

Jeff, Great pics, thanx for sharing. It's great when the kids can enjoy the woods as much as us. I like that! Very clever. (and optimistic) But, make sure you take Jack so we can hear how he out-fished you! :argh: John-

    Waiting for YOU!

Velocichigger? My boy probably thinks so. He's just getting rid of a batch. His first time. Next time he might listen to the "old man", and stay out of the high grass. BTW Bob... great pic John

    Mullica Trip

It was truly a great time! The water was perfect for swimming. We did a lot of that. Bob- There was a party of seven and a party of five along with the three of us. Very quiet at night. :) Two hikers arrived at 11:30 Sat., just as we were leaving. No park police came thru at all...

    Mullica Trip

My kids and I were finally blessed with a weekend that provided nice enough weather for our overnighter. And boy, was it ever worth the wait! We couldn't have asked for two nicer summer days. We left Friday late morn with a clear and sunny day to guide us. Here are some photos we would like to...

    Pair of Timber Rattlers

Al, In my youth, (sometime last week) :), I was the only one in my circle of friends who was not afraid to handle snakes. I've handled plenty while camping, hiking, golfing, whatever. Looking back, the way I did it, pinning them with a stick or stepping on their neck, probably wasn't a real...

    Pair of Timber Rattlers

This has been one of the best threads in a long time. Very informative. Keep it going! I'm no herper by any means, but I would agree with the unnecessary handling of snakes of any species. I'm still on the fence about the overhandling of them in the name of science. I love finding them in their...

    Pines Findings

My son and I went for a walk along the tracks out by Hampton yesterday. We were looking for bridges #75, #76 and #77. Great day for a walk but a lot of standing water made it a little "buggy". We found our bridges and a couple of residents... Bridge #76 Bridge inspector... found on...
