    High Tension Line

Power Line Clearing Has anyone seen the clearing being done under the power lines in Waterford? The end of Tremont Ave at the intersection of Burnt Mill Rd has about a 1/4 mile section under the lines that has the trees topped only. Most of these trees weren't tall enough to worry the wires...

    Old or new?

Oji: Portland cement used in block making was invented in the 1820's. Mass produced concrete blocks from molds were not used until the late 19th century. Previously, blocks were solid and very heavy. Blocks made with coal cinders were made sometime in the 20th century. Steel reinforced...

    Graphite Rods

While exploring Parkdale recently, the kids a I discovered these black rods at various places around the ruins. It's difficult to determine their age as I don't know how they would stand up against weather and time. After a little research, I found that they are highly conducive to electricity...

Why can't I lose this gut?

LIP: There's some good advice here. Definitely cut out the fast food and use portion control. I used to skip breakfast also, but learned you need this meal to "jump-start" your metabolism in the morning. Aaron already mentioned this. Not only EAT breakfast, but try making it your BIGGEST...

Article about NJ parks closing due to budget cuts

Question Why would the state propose the closings of 9 existing parks when the DEP parks and forestry site is claiming the establishment of two new state parks? One in Paterson and the other in Trenton. Doesn't quite make sense, does it...

    Alquatka Branch, a PBX Hike

Great trip report. Excellent photos, too. (Lucky find on your marker, Guy.) The pics of that savannah are awesome. On the map that was posted, are those the West Jersey cranberry bogs on the bottom left and is the savannah the entire open area on the map between "Savannah" and "Header" that...

    Abandoned racetracks.

Atco Speedway Took a ride to the old Atco Speedway this afternoon. I hadn't been back there in many years. The folks there were very friendly, and very appreciative that I stopped to ask permission before I went back there. The path in is getting really overgrown as is the track itself. The...

    The Two trees at Washington

I took a ride to the Rancocas Nature Center after work today. What a great little spot. Thanx for the tip BEHR. Didn't do much hiking because I want to bring the kids back with me. They'll love this place. BEHR: Is the tree you're referring to right in front of the visitor center? This tree...

    Trashy pines

More Tires THIS SUCKS!!! These were probably worn out running the Pines, then just dumped there. There's gotta be a better way. These are on Burnt House Rd.(Sandy Causeway) between Goshen and Chew Rd. If anyone knows where to get rid of tires, let me know and I'll pick them up.

Give me a list of "Must See's"

Bob: Found the Albertson trestle after the Clark. Largo was right, what a great area, very isolated. Flushed 2 Mallards from under the bridge. Too dark for good pics. Probably go back this weekend. Cleaned up some trash on the way out and found a box turtle shell. The kids love it.(It pays to...

Was there another hole near by, sort of hidden? I think foxes usually have a "back door" for escape.

Give me a list of "Must See's"

Yeti: You were about a 5 minute walk from this bridge when you stopped at Stokes Rd. Go back and check it out. I didn't know there was a bridge over the Clark's Branch(thanx Largo). I'll try and find that and the Albertson crossing today after work and post the pics.

Give me a list of "Must See's"

Bob: It is about 12 miles from Atsion to Chatsworth following the tracks. I believe you would cross 6 bridges, 5 of which I think are trestles. One of them might be broken, making a crossing there difficult. (See post#30). You may want to find out before you start.

Give me a list of "Must See's"

Bridge 78 Yeti: I was also in that area today. I walked from Quaker Bridge Rd to Stokes Rd but didn't find any trestles. All I found was a small concrete bridge. Maybe bridge #78 (???). See if you have any better luck on your next trip out there.
