    How did you get started?

Topo Maps Seven Bridges Angler: Welcome to the forum. If your going to be driving around in the pines, topo maps are an invaluable aid. I got my first set many years ago and I was using them today. I keep them in the truck all the time. When you take a wrong turn or get twisted...

    Trashy pines

Old Wheel Exploring the woods west of Rte. 206, the kids and I found what might be a piece of trash that was dumped there from somebody's front yard. Maybe not. It appears to be, what is left of an old wagon wheel. It seems very old but it's hard to really determine the age. The remaining wood...

    The Two trees at Washington

I should have guessed Buttonwoods. There are more in this general area. I've seen similar trees at Buttonwood Hill, (duh), and some near Herman. That's an interesting fact that trees, like these, were planted for newlyweds. Either way, they are not there by chance as they are not native. Thanx.

    The Two trees at Washington

Sunday a week ago,(a great day to be in the woods), I took a ride through Batsto over to Washington. I took some pics of the two trees that are on either side of the Tuckerton road between the barn ruin and the large cellar hole on the way to Maxwell. These two seem much older than the...

    Coyotes running wild.

With a deer herd numbering around 150,000 in NJ and a coyote population of about 3000, there is no great threat to the deer numbers. Hunters themselves harvest about 1/3 of the deer in the state annually. If predators and nature increase that number, it would probably be minimal. The size of the...

    Pyramids along the water

Mike: What part of the Rancocas where you on? Sounds like they may have been beaver lodges. There are many of them on the Mullica where the river widens between Atsion and the Mullica R. campsite.

    Trashy pines

Jerseyman: Thank you for the excellent response to my question. You're resources are amazing. The bottle is a piece of local history so it's certainly a keeper. Unfortunately, it's broken near the top.

    Trashy pines

I don't think you'll ever stop the trash being thrown out the window. It's easier to toss it than carry it out. It's good to know there are so many other people picking up trash when they're in the pines. At Washington on Sunday I filled a whole bag between the barn ruin and the large cellar...

    Pine Barren Folklore

All: I wasn't trying to say Wikipedia is the end all/be all source guide. It's just that sometimes it's a starting point for further research. I for one never count only one source as the truth, no matter where it's from. Jerseyman: I sorry my post chased you off the thread.:(

    Atsion schoolhouse and some cats!

Piney Paul: It must have been great to wander around those woods growing up. Many years ago, a friend of mine found an old arrow head which he donated to the Native American museum in Mt. Holly. Have you ever found N. A. artifacts or historical relics when...

Give me a list of "Must See's"

Parkdale is a place to see. There's a small trestle bridge there, too. The ruins at Harrisville and Martha are pretty cool. Easy trips for your father could be Batsto or Whitesbogs Villages.
