    Memorial Weekend Exploring

Guy, I am so happy you were able to figure out what that marker was. I am extremely impressed with you and your piney psychic abilities. I will pay closer attention to these things from now on. :)

American elm is trying to get out of the shadow of past diseases

My dad was big into photography (he traveled the world) so we have tons of slides. He had good equipment and I think his company bought him slide film. Never thought of that as being unusual then, but I guess it was!

American elm is trying to get out of the shadow of past diseases

It was actually on slide film and yes, there was color back then. Those things preserve perfectly. My sister is a photographer and had access to whatever equipment it took to scan it in. It's so fresh and crisp, it almost brings her back. :)

American elm is trying to get out of the shadow of past diseases

Wow! I had no idea we had resistant cultivars. That's a great thing. I'll look forward to seeing the first elm tree. :) We lived in an Elm lined street (as so many people did) called Elm Place. Yes, really. This is a photo of my Mom in the 50s with those trees in the background. Hard to believe...

    More pictures

I'm so jealous! I've seen the "leavings" of otters a lot while out paddling, their slides, footie prints and garbage dumps, but I've never had the pleasure of seeing one in person.

    Stafford Forge after the fire

Awesome, Boyd. We were there over the weekend, and the contrasts are stunning. You captured them nicely!

Pine plains on 539 after the fire

I don't know that it's just the focus or even the f-stop. It's got absolutely no depth and the colors are so flat and low-quality. The photos look like they were taken with a phone-cam. I'll send some photos to Canon and find out. It's frustrating, it's been such a great camera, we've gotten the...

Pine plains on 539 after the fire

Do you guys know where the marker is? It was right next to that Corvair and a few miles north of the bombing range on the northbound side of the road. I'll get my husband to give coords or at least a better idea of where it was if you need it. I am a bad student, I only looked at it in...

Pine plains on 539 after the fire

A photographic offering from the Gremlins. I apologize in advance, our previously great camera was sent out for repair and it isn't right. Everything's out of focus. It may be a setting or something, but we can't figure it out. It may have to go back to Canon. This was a Corvair, I think...

Pine plains on 539 after the fire

Boyd, I am really impressed with your skills. The ash vortex photos are fantastic, almost dreamlike. I absolutely love those.

Thanks KOP, now I don't feel like such a naif. :)

Some pictures in the Pine Barrens

That's a Cedar Waxwing. I didn't know they were seen in NJ. (I am certainly no birder by any stretch).

Does anyone know the abandonment of Friendship Cranberry Farm?

This very forum has a lot of information. Here's one article posted by the administrator about the subject. Friendship was operating until about the late 1940s/early 1950s.

Pine plains on 539 after the fire

We took a trip down there ourselves yesterday to survey the damage. I'll post photos later if my camera worked the way it should. We looked around the bombing range and then ventured into the Stafford Forge area. What a day. We were filthy by the time we got home! The scope of the fire isn't...

    Ancient Canoe

Well, isn't that interesting! I've found a few arrowheads washed up on shore myself, but a section of a canoe? That's amazing.

    Barrens of fire

Wow. Now that's a fire. Are there any NJPB members evacuated? I had lunch with a bunch of Amish guys from Pennsylvania today and they were all talking about it. It must be pretty widespread news.
