    Storms headed our way again

That storm nailed evesham/medford pretty good. I went over to little mill around 5 to play some golf and figured 30% didn't mean much, no umbrella either. Sat next to tree like a dope for about 30 minutes of a downpour. I think they got like 2 inches of rain, never saw it rain so hard during...

    Owl Rescue at Parker Preserve

Gibby, you should have consulted for this capture. That owl is no match for the italian conservationist, looks like a matador with that sweatshirt.

2 turtle hunters pulled from icy northern NJ river

I'm told they were nature watching and outdoor enthusiasts who look for turtles in the summer. Looks like the story was twisted for dramatic effect, shocking from the media.

2 turtle hunters pulled from icy northern NJ river

Is this section of the passaic pretty dirty? There is another species they could be seeking but i dont even wanna delve into it because of the pressure this species already faces. That style to catch a hibernating animal is chicken shit, i would beat the piss out of someone if i saw them doing...

    Another Deer Tick Disease

I agree with Scott and Al. I actually don't put any bug spray on just make sure I check thoroughly and make sure I get the ticks off me while I'm in the field. I find the core barrens aren't as bad ticks wise, as cape may and cumberland counties, chiggers are worse though. With that said I...

$9.7 million to preserve 5,000 acres of woodlands and wetlands

Someone told me there was a newspaper article about over 100 DOR rattlers after 55 was built. Seems like a stretch. I was also told that it was the second biggest den in SJ prior. Regulations today wouldn't allow that to happen, ashame it did then.

$9.7 million to preserve 5,000 acres of woodlands and wetlands

Al, I wish they were south of the mullica and I'm sure there are a few but probably not doing that well. As you know there was a huge pop down by you but 55 wiped them out for most part.

$9.7 million to preserve 5,000 acres of woodlands and wetlands

I was actually going to chime in last night that many of those species don't exist on that land. Def no timbers, prob no pine snakes and the pbtf aren't abundant. I guess there is a remote chance of timbers but there is not a whole lot of records recently below the mullica.

    Fire breaks

The never ending story. I'm not sure any solution or good will be reached on this site. The bottom line is most of the people making the decisions don't know the woods too well, that is the frustration for many of us. I see a rattlesnake den get steamrolled for no reason after the state approved...

Slow to fight southern pine beetles

I think pine beetles are actually the best things for the barrens, create a ton of habitat through the dying trees. In my opinion a dead pine tree has more value to species than a standing one. The pines could use a little thinning in the abscence of burning (which is not allowed anymore it...

    Fire breaks

I contacted the folks I know at ENSP about where the burning and cuts were taking place. A couple things, the current process of approving the cuts and where burns are going to occur is cumbersome and under review to make more efficient, that is what I was told. So saying that the burn plans are...

Bob, did anything come of the requests in that letter? Was the biologist Kris Shantz? She is feisty and a good advocate for timber rattlesnakes.
