This morning Ro, her son Jim, and I went to Parker Preserve to monitor our two botany test sites. While there Ro spotted a great horned owl sitting on a hummock in a bog near the dike road; it appeared sick or hurt. There were feathers around it. We called Dr. Emil De Vito, Manager Natural Resources at NJCF, who came and captured the bird. We took it to Cedar Run Wildlife Hospital. There the Assistant Director said the bird appeared to be a juvenile, was very emaciated, that they would attempt to bring it back to health and then release it at Parker.

Sorry - didn't get pix in time sequence. Next time.....

Gibby, you should have consulted for this capture.

That owl is no match for the italian conservationist, looks like a matador with that sweatshirt.

Sad news. Dr. Emil DeVito of NJCF said Woodford animal hospital had been unable to rejuvenate the owl we brought in, it'd been too emaciated.

Sorry to hear that. You all should be satisfied with the effort you took to try and save it.

Spending time in the field with Emile is a blast. Just don't start discussing baseball with him (especially if you are a Yankee fan).

Jersey Jeff - yes, he's knowledgeable, fun, opinionated, and vocal - a great trek companion. Didn't know the baseball issue; tnx for the heads up.
