History Short of the Varnum Family of Atco

I cannot imagine taking 8 weeks to cross the ocean in a (possibly) fetid, pitching boat. I crossed in a troop ship in 1964. Smelled like diesel the entire way. Many bouts with seasickness, but easily nothing your ancestors went through.

    Where is this?

Well, since we have Belleplain down there, I don't know. You might want to extend that some. Oh, wait, I see....you are right.

No, look at the gent standing on the right of the pond as I slide by. That's you.

    Where is this?

That is something you don't see often. Was the last sentence tongue in cheek, or do you really have a southern border in mind?

    Dams on Buckshutem Creek

I wonder if an early corduroy road would have, in some way not understood, have shaped the land to allow Lidar to pick it up.

The new universal boydsmaps web app is (finally) here!

Boyd, the old version had a button for Google Maps to come up at the current location. I used that a lot. For instance on the Walker Mansion thread, I wanted to drive (googlewise) to where others thought the mansion was. It was easy just opening that menu button on the left side. It may be there...

    Dams on Buckshutem Creek

One puzzling aspect of that spot. You can see there is a slope that goes beyond the edge of the waterway, but you were there and did not see one.

    Dams on Buckshutem Creek

Good report Al. Buckscrotum dam. :p But hey, you mentioned a ditch across from where you were standing in the first video. If a ditch was dug, maybe that lidar is just showing the dirt thrown up out of the ditch. ?? Also, you said..."I think perhaps there was a flood in the past that dumped...

    Dams on Buckshutem Creek

Interesting Al. I had a similar thought about sand ending up infiltrating the old sticks of a beaver dam, but I could not think how it would be done. Your thought makes sense. By the way, I justed noted the road crossing the creek is "Battle Lane". Also, did you notice that slope follows the...

    Dams on Buckshutem Creek

Thanks, I just did as you say, and the light areas jump 30 to 40 feet higher. So as Mark says, they are plateaus. Now, they could have been even taller and shaved by man for some reason.

    Dams on Buckshutem Creek

Mark, but what of the depressions? I know we are approaching the source for brick material and/or marl belt up there. Could the top have been dug in several places in the 19th century? Edit: on second thought, I can't say they are depressions. They may just look that way due to the vegetation.

    Beer (again)

I've always had a love for European and British beers. Yes, I do drink Miller, but I usally have two beers at night, and the first one is from across the sea, usually. Depends upon funds sometimes. I got this one tonight, and really like it.

    Dams on Buckshutem Creek

This area just to the ESE is interesting. My first thought when I saw the topo ridges was a long abandoned gravel pit. One that the topo caught up to. Marks northern link Monmouth County: https://maps.njpinebarrens.com/#lat=40.19810793095733&lng=-74.25401254550779&z=15&type=topo&gpx= On...
