    Jersey Devil: Not Just Folklore?

I would be willing to bet some serious money it was a turkey vulture......all birds of prey hop when on a kill.....I've seen vultures hop exactly like kangaroos because they are to stuffed with food to fly. A bird of prey will sometimes become so gourged that hopping is there only way of...

    Need some advice!!

Very nice work Mark. At many wildlife rehabbers they will not tell you know how the animal is doing. This is a policy at many. I took a box turtle last year to ceder woodford, they are a great place. However, I would love to know if the animals make it. I've tried to call, but have never...

    Misplaced

GermanG, the ones you helped cross the road ended up getting hit? I know that road well and it amazes me there is no terrapin crossing signs.....there is no reason to be on that road unless you enjoy nature or fish.......there is no good reason for any adult terrapin to die on that road...

    Misplaced

George, redbellies live in large lakes, ponds, and streams. They will travel far to lay eggs...but usually only a couple hundred yards. Most turtles lay eggs were they hatched and will continue to use that spot for years. Don't feel to bad about relocating it....however as a rule it is never...

Stones, Monuments, Turtles, and a Snake

Guy, based on your painted turtle I think we may have been in the same woods today. There is some bozo down there that likes to put paint on turtles(which can be fatal for the turtle). Nice finds with the boxies....especially the young ones.

    Revisiting the Rattlesnake

Jburd no pygmy in NJ, just down south. We do have timbes here and that site you mentioned is nearly extirpated. There could be other dens there but the one that was surrounded by development had seven timbers killed from it during construction, five by construction workers and two by car...

    Revisiting the Rattlesnake

I think 100 timbers may be an exaggeration by that piney.....there may only be a 500 timbers in the pines, a 100 would be nearly impossible to do. How long ago was this?

    Coyote puppies

There are risk/rewards for living in any area.....you don't want to risk a coyote attack in your backyard then move to the city or suburbs. If you want to live out in the woods be prepared for the good and bad.......

    Coyote puppies

Can you provide evidence of how they can be dangerous? Just curious, as I've only heard of a few attacks(all on dog walkers). Jeff, the only yote I've seen was red too.....a striking animal.....saw him on the parkway stalking deer. Was in that same area yesterday Jeff, I have to saw the...

    Turtle's

Star, there are no alligator snapping turtles in NJ. There are snapping turtles but they tend to stay away from heavy brackish water. You will be seeing exclusively diamondback terrapins. Watch around mid June to look for females laying their eggs. If you do see any digging nests try to keep...
