    Revisiting the Rattlesnake

Thats true Ben you guys do go deep in the pines, but......trust me they are very harmless. You have to mess with them real bad to be struck. Star, we don't have water moccassins in NJ. The only poisonous snake you will encounter in SJ is the timber rattlesnake. Also were you live there...

    Turtle's

Does LEHT refer to lower egg harbor township? If so you are probably seeing diamondback terrapins. There are completely harmless to your dogs as would anything else off your dock. Snapping turtles may be around but pose no real threat to a dog. Is the water brackish/salt? If they are...

    Revisiting the Rattlesnake

Guys, no one should worry about timbers. They are pretty rare in this state and if you see one consider yourself lucky and move on. Guy did not stumble upon these they are at a spot Bob and him visit every year. With that said they can be tough to see because of their camo. However, they...

Outdoor recreation is on a decline...

I agree with Jeff, video games and garbage on tv are keeping people inside. I can't remember the last time I drove by a field and saw kids playing sports like I did when I was a kid. Everyday until I was a teenager I was out at culbertson school in barrington playing football....you just don't...

Off-road vehicles pose twin threat to safety, environment

I've seen a good amount of destruction from off road vehicle use. I've seen vernal pools obliterated and destroyed, pine snake nesting sites destroyed...I think it would be great if they were registered...the money could be used for a good cause at least.

What could this person be up to

That would make sense.....there is great stripper fishing not far away at all. I'm always worried about spotted turtles. Bobbleton was with me a took a peak in the tank and saw nothing.....there was several other cars along the road, so maybe it was fishing related. Almost called a few...

What could this person be up to

Yesterday out in the pines of cumberland county I came across something that maybe you guys could provide insight to. There was a truck on the side of the road with a 200 gallon rubbermaid stock tank. It was filled with 8 inches of water with a aeration system on it to provide oxygen. The car...

    Turtle's

Gabe, they sometimes fade with age.....also the mud from stream like the rancocas(outside the barrens) mucks up there head and disguises it. At the same time the iron, cedar water sometimes blemishes their head. For the most part the one or two stripes are there but just faded. I'll have to...

    Turtle's

Gabe(I think), The northern redbelly has a very limited range, its stonghold is obviously here in southern nj. They do retain one or two stripes on there head into adulthood, and the ones found within the cedar streams are by far the most pretty. They are in the slider family and throughout...

    Turtle's

He/she was probably born late summer of 2006, possibly overwintering in the nest.....so 1.5 years old. They start to lose alot of there coloring around 5-6 inches long. The bright coloration in young may keep predators away, as some brightly colored things are posionous.
