Bob, just wondering if you have been out to see that timber rattlesnake since your last trip. I know he/she had some health issues just wondering if you've seen it since. Thanks Chris

    snake venom?

I have a question can someone explain to me why the scarlet snake is not endangered or threatened in south jersey. Are they "uncommon" but just very secretive spending most time under ground, or out at night. It seems like people find all the other snakes in south jersey from time to time...

    First Timer

Well I can answer a few of your questions. Snakes are still out I have seen pine snakes out into october. As far as how late you can find them it all depends on the weather but when daytime temps dip below the 70's consistently it will probably be tough. There is one poisionous snake in the...

    snake venom?

I've seen a few in pa in rocky outcroppings about 200 yards away from a stream, same spots as I've seen timber rats. I'm just trying to find a hognose or another pine snake in cumberland county, but my window is closing fast.

    A ride South part 1

I think myself and njsnakeman are the only ones that explore outside of burlington and ocean counties. I do primarily because I find that the probability of seeing wildlife is greater down where I go. I've never had much herping success with the true pine barrens. That makepeace wma looks...

    The month of august

Yeah this last weekend with all the rain got box turtles stirring. I was out yesterday briefly and all turtles were sunning like it was a spring day. Seeing one cross the road on a sunny day like that this time of year is unusual. I never get tired of seeing box turtles reminds me of when I...

    Crikey!!!

One thing i can say about this is alot of times when someone is taken so suddenly like this it inspires people to take up his legacy. I just feel bad for his kids, and the organizations he was helping, hopefully they have able people to take his place.

    snake venom?

The guy who caught the baby copperhead was probably the same guy that said there are diamondbacks and three posionous snakes in the pines. I don't think the habitat is here for copperheads, no rocky outcroppings or any rocks for the matter..... except the ones in the pines that bigfoot threw at...

    Crikey!!!

Heard that this morning, its is ashame. But you mess around with dangerous animals too much it is going to bite you in the ass eventually. I sometimes question irwins way in which he interacts with animals, but I have to give him credit in that he raised alot of money and awareness to wildlife.

    The month of august

I find the racers very close to menatico. I've actually seen very little at menatico and spent alot of time back there when i was in high school camping in the summer. I've heard coyotes back there and can't say I've ever seen a snake now that I'm thinking about it. But its been a while since...

    snake venom?

They're is one poisionous snake in the pines and that is the timber rattlesnake, and they are extremely rare at that. The guy sounds like maybe 10% of the things that came out of his mouth are true....maybe. Many people have sworn to me they saw water moccasin in new jersey. I would say on...

    The month of august

Yeah cumberland county, everytime I've been out this year I have seen at least one and usually 3-6. Don't see too many rats, maybe a 6-9 all year.

nice pics, same things i've been finding. I think i have seen somewhere in between 50-70 black racers this year, I'm really sick of them.

    Some pics from 8/28

Went out around 7 am to see what the rain drove out, saw lots of all the common critters(box turtles, racers, water snakes, skinks, swifts, and frogs). Here are some of the pics wasn't going to post them but the woods have been really dead lately so this was a moderately good day. This guy...

    Another cougar sighting

If he said one cougar I may believe it for 2 seconds. But two... come on to my knowledge most cats are solitary(except for lions). Why would there be two together. My guess they are maybe coyotes eating plovers, or other shorebirds. But I really think it is a bunch of bs.

This one is so far fetched, enjoy, http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/15317566.htm Also, here is an interesting one about a seal washing up on jersey beaches, http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/15369361.htm

    Bobcat tracks

Dave, the camera I bought kept on being triggered by either weeds blowing in the wind, or the pine trees across from it. I returned the camera and am in the process of buying one with a laser guide from cabella's. In the meantime I contacted someone from the ensp in charge of project bobcat in...

    The Eastern Hognose snake

Yeah that is a good article, I've always been fascinated by what species use to occur around the east coast, and more specifically new jersey. LI Piney, I'm pretty sure you posted a pick of a dead hognose on the road a while back. You may want to report that to new york fish and game. If they...
