    I have seen them made of pine needles and they did not look good.I personally made mine out of oak leaves.Pine needles would be a pain for sure and not a good insulation.

    If I had a garmin I"d be much interested.I love these old maps.Not as accurate as modern ones sometimes but info on them that leads to discoveries.Old roads ,cellar holes and more.
