    I hit a beaver

Yeah, but apparently before 1912 they were classified as rodents. Go to the bottom under the Classification heading. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit Jeff

Hints of Places Here and There

I had my nephews out fishing on Atsion Lake a couple years ago. They are obsessed with video games. That is all they talked about the whole trip. Here we are fishing out on the lake at a beautiful dusk and they are telling me about virtual fishing in some fantasy world. I acted interested...

    The call of the wild

Actually our coyote are not too far off. The eastern coyote is, by generally accepted theory, part grey wolf. They can get pretty big too. Thank goodness they are people shy. Jeff

    The call of the wild

A logical guess, but I don't think the state would bring coyote in to manage deer populations. there are easier and far more controllable approaches. As far as I know, there are no farms or breeders for the eastern coyote. Jeff

    I hit a beaver

I had never heard of rabbit as being a rodent. I just did a quick google search on that and apparently they were classified as rodent until 1912, since then they have been classified differently. I have had rabbit. It was a long time ago but I'll officially classify them as delicious. Jeff

    I hit a beaver

I do hate to see it go to waste. I had no idea people actually, literally, ate beaver. It is a rodent. But I guess anything is edible. I remember skinning racoon, rabit, and squirel (spelling) roadkill with my Dad when I was a kid but I am way out of practice. Jeff

    I hit a beaver

Have you ever eaten beaver? (I'm sorry but you were just asking for that, I tried really hard, but couldn't resist) Well, anyway, I suppose the meat would be spoiled by now (12:00 the next day) When I was a kid I did skin a few road kills but I'm afraid I haven't got the time available to...

    Riding in the pines

Dave, there is a hot debate concerning this here in the forum http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/showthread.php?t=4689 If you have five or six hours to spare you can probably read all the posts:) Like Bobnj1979, I am a rider also. Like he says you'll find yourself coming back to do some more...

    Tabernacle Playgrounds Transformed

I live somewhat near that Tabernacle playground. I will be bringing my little guy there in the spring. Good to know it is safe now. I am going to have deck built off of my house. I have been debating treated lumber or that plastic stuff. Should I be concerned about health concerns with...

    Chatsworth Atv park

I have to agree with Bobnj1979, By reason of logistics, riders can't be illegal dumpers. The exception is if they had this garbage in those trucks. If that was they case they are dumpers who are also off roaders. There are alot of irresponsible and destructive people out there. It is...

    I hit a beaver

Well the title kind of says it all. I came around a sharp turn on route 532 near my house and immeditely in the road was...what I thought was a recently road killed deer, I had no where to go because of a guard rail. I ran it over. I slowed and looked in my mirror and saw it still moving a...

Trip Report: May 1736—John Bartram in the Cedar Swamps

Very unique idea Jerseyman, to post a historic trip report. A pleasure to read, and a reminder that our interests are not contemporary. Jeff

Yeah it's A$@holes like the people that did this that give all ORV's a bad name. I tend to agree that it looks more like the work of a truck than anything else. That doesn't look like a one time deal. I wonder if this was a bunch of them at once or some one is frequently doing this now. Bob...

East Branch of the Wading River

Mark, it does seem like a half days travel is too long from Allen's bridge to Calico. Even if they were walking it. And it is not West. However, could they have been following rivers for navigation, and the author percieved that they were moving in a generally westward direction? See what I...

The "March of Ives" a PBX Hike

Real nice report. Would have liked to have been on this one. Sure had great weather. It is amazing how many hidden cordoroy roads are out there isn't it? Even more amazing is how the cedar underlay has lasted so long. What a resilant wood. See any turtles under the ice? Gabe and I saw a...
