    "Echoes of Amatol"-TV Documentary

Saw a promo for a show entitled "The Echoes of Amatol" which will be aired on New Jersey Channel 12 next Sunday at 10:27 (I guess PM). The promo said they have been researching the area for several months in prep of the documentary. Should be good.

    Old Mansion at Union Forge?

I postd some info or rather posed some questions about this area in a recent thread. I did not spend much time there since it was at day's end, but did not find anything of the mansion. Beck talked about a chimney assoc w/ a ruined gun club or something. Would love to hear more myself.

Where have all the ticks gone?

At Hanover, even if you walked through a few tufts of scatered Indian grass, there would be a couple on me. The things get in your shoelaces too and you can't see them! I wonder if Harrisville is experiencing a low tick abundance because I like it there in the summer except that it usually is...

Scary Abandoned House between Tuckerton and New Gretna

I was in Georgia (NJ) on Sunday. I noticed an old abandoned house near the school. I was trying to look at an old lake bed in the area and ran into a groupxof friendly kids who said they had read about the house on a web site. I don't think it was mentioned on this one. Does anyone know of...

    Weymouth Furnace

It may be in reference to the blue-colored slag that is pretty abundan there. It is also possible that a glauconitic formation in the area. I know portions of the streambed of Manasquan River is blue from glauconite. I also think this material is instrumental in forming bog iron ore in...

Where have all the ticks gone?

Absolutley! Down in S.C. there were no ticks and it was great. I wonder if there is some portion of their life cycle makes them dormant at certain times. Who knows.

Where have all the ticks gone?

I'm glad that was aid because I have also noticed a major decrease for ticks. I thought maybe they had sprayed areas with "7". Allaire Park is usually the tick capital of the world and I came out of the brush with ZERO noticed. I got several very small ones on me in Georgia on Sunday, but...

    Pinelands to Pine waist

Here's some documentation on the mercury topic we were discussing. The EPA has "proposed" many things... http://www.nrdc.org/media/pressreleases/040227.asp The problem starts with the Bush Cabinet as they put their influence on the EPA. Then they scare them with threat of budget cuts...

    Pinelands to Pine waist

Yes, it was somewhat of a rant, and I am in no way ashamed how I feel, nor do I care at all about your smug remark. I'm no liberal. I think we should cut way down on immigration and find the enemies at home. It is a FACT that pregnant women, and hence newborns, have shown an increase in...

    Pinelands to Pine waist

BTW, any person who is pro George W. Bush, is either VERY rich (and has no other care in the world besides that an extra 1,000 bucks in their pocket is worth the health and sustainability of this planet) OR IS HELPLESSLY IGNORANT, please rethink your position. The Bush Cabinet is exactly the...

    Pinelands to Pine waist

The worst area I have been at so far was south of mary Ann Forge, near the truly lost area of Lower Mill, it is inundated with dumping from nearby ignorance. At the same time it shows the natural state of this area and of course the reason why Control is unfortunately necessary. Incredible...

    Ruins found near Bodine Field....

Oh man, she's beautiful. You can see the brick work near the top. Looks somewhat similar to the allaire furnace in that the hearth is one type of rock and then the top may have extended upward with bricks. Wonder how tall it was during operation. For the person asking about the Martha...

    Ruins found near Bodine Field....

Aren't there a couple more somewhat intact furnaces in north Jersey? Whoever has insinuated that Allaire did not make bog iron is simply mistaken. It's welll documented. They didn't do too much in the way of making things there, although they did to an extent. It was most used during the...

    Ruins found near Bodine Field....

There is a book entitled "The Martha Furnace Diaries" listed in the Monmouth County Library system.. I haven't looked at it yet, but imagine it must be the whole thing. I may locate it tomorrow. Reference only of course.

    Ruins found near Bodine Field....

Early development of the Harrisville plot supposedly contained a forge or furnace (memory fails me), so the cannonball factory tale may not be all too far-fetched, even if the source of it is not based on fact.

    Ruins found near Bodine Field....

The portion that still has standing walls is the paper mill plant. The most visible portion is the oldest part of the building. According to historical sources, that building was over 600 feet long and was the industry of a thriving community until the late 19th century it all burned down...

Where is the biggest pine tree?

The biggest pine tree I ever saw is next to the church (old one) in the City of Burlington. The pine cones are huge. I never measured it, but will next timeI pass that way. It's to the left of the church and adjacent to the road.

    Union Forge

It's in the first Beck book somewhere around page 95-96. He mentions the broken down mnsion, former club house (w/ large chimneys), and former furnace site. I thought I'd at least find a prominent cellar hole for the mansion. However, I didn't spend a lot of time at the right location. The...
