Wish I had never seen this. Wish I had never seen this at all.

National Park System turns 100 today

Happy birthday! Took the boys over to Independence Hall to celebrate. Sadly, we missed the birthday cupcakes. To celebrate, I torture you with some of my favorite pictures I've taken...

Heart of the Pines on Ebay for $55

I did the world's biggest happy dance when they reprinted that one, there was no way I was paying hundreds of dollars online for it.

    Winslow WMA Crackdown !

I was trying to figure out what that picture was, knew it definitely wasn't the Blue Hole or Penbryn Lake...

    Camp Dix

Ended up just sticking them all online. Motor Cycle training is my favorite I think. :) https://southjerseytrails.org/2016/08/23/campdix/

    Camp Dix

That article on the page from the fort's newsletter could be a great find! Just wish the text was clearer... http://www.worldwar1.com/dbc/dixpost.htm

    Camp Dix

I'm curious if these pictures were actually taken at Camp Dix, or taken somewhere else and sold at Camp Dix to soldiers as mementos of the types of training they had done, even if the pictures weren't in the right spot. None of them look very pine barrens, but none of them look like they...

    Abandoned racetracks.

If you're ever down at Pitman, it's worth stopping by the Alcyon track, which is a public park now. On the walking path to the right side as you come in, they have old photographs posted. And I think this is different than the link posted earlier (but if it isn't, forgive me)...

    Concrete Ship

Thanks! Wish I had a steadier hand that day, but the "high" was 17 degrees, and the wind was biting. Luckily, I was camping, so I got to enjoy -1 degrees that night at Belleplain. :D

    Camp Dix

Picked up some WWI pictures from a post card set last winter while down the shore, and just stumbled back across them while doing very late Spring cleaning this week. The stamp on them reads "Camp Dix", but they don't seem to be particularly pine barrensesque. I'd imagine the original photos...

    Concrete Ship

My favorite time visiting (or rather, most unusual) was about a year and a half ago during a cold snap. The icebergs were floating on by it. We were actually "late", folks said two days earlier people were walking out across the ice to touch it.

    Michael Huber Prairie Warbler Preserve.

Went out exploring this one with the kids about a week and a half ago (before the real bad heat kicked in). Had trouble where the Green and Yellow trails came together because of downed trees (yay bushwhacking!), but I think I avoided the part of the Green Trail everyone seems to get messed up...

There’s something for everyone in the Black Run Preserve in Marlton

I might have posted this elsewhere, but the orienteering course was unveiled last Spring. Went out and did it the week before it was official, was a lot of fun! Info on the course: http://blackrun.org/orienteering-course/

    Ariel Hotel, Atlantic City

Also, my Uncle managed to get a picture about a month ago! After years of being told that it didn't exist, suddenly, it did. And a fine looking place that it was.

Edith, if you have a way (and wouldn't mind) sharing those pictures, my family would sure be grateful.

Hiking Hammonton Lake Park and Smith Conservation Area

So I managed to misfile most of my pictures from this one, but a few months back, I took the kids hiking at Hammonton Lake Park in Hammonton. There are three trails there. Two are simply paved fitness trails (and nearly overlap the whole way), but the third is a nature trail that wanders into...

Planning a Batona Trail Thru Hike

The "official" map is bizarre. Some of the landmarks are absolutely spot on, others seem wildly off. It doesn't help that there hasn't been a totally new map generated since the major reroutes (just a paper insert). Before the reroutes, it was just over 49 miles (most people just rounded up...

Jakes Branch County Park -Ocean County

Beautiful hike if you've never done it. We did just over four miles on the blue and white trails (just over 8 miles of trails total). My favorite part of the hike was, due to fires and controlled burns, you get to walk through pitch pine forests of various ages, which makes for a very...
