    The NEW Beer Thread

When they used to have them in the 6 packs I used to put all 6 down. Many of these companies have switched to the 4 packs lately, bigfoot included. Shes quite thick and dark with a bite.

Camping with kids - how young is too young?

Congratulations! I dont remember how young I was my first camping trip, but I imagine just a few months old. Our first is due in July and Im hoping to get up to the Adirondacks late August/early September. That usually means at least a night or two in a tent somewhere, but again, this is our...

    Beaver's

I dont mind hunters trapping beaver at all, but why would our legislature be the ones determining this all year open-season on these critters. Seems like they'd be the last group to know anything about their numbers and effects on the environment. I dont always agree with fish and game, but...

    Forked River Mountain

No worries and you did not offend me. Almost all the posted signs on both sides of Lacey Rd came from the hunting club. There are some gravel companies that own and/or lease in the area, but the posted land is the club's property. I just didnt want you or other members thinking that those guys...

Coyote conspiracy: Myth, or state-business collusion?

Havent heard the yotes in a while near me, but I thought I'd post that I heard them twice this week and that was from inside with the windows closed. Last night was pretty darn close, maybe 200 yards into the woods. Always welcoming to hear them IMO.

Coyote conspiracy: Myth, or state-business collusion?

They definately affect the deer population. I've come across many a deer carcass and signs of a struggle with a coyote pack. My neighbor watched a pack take down a small deer in his backyard. As others have mentioned, sometimes I see more coyote tracks than deer in the woods. I also hunt...

    Quality Drinking Water at Risk?

Found this today and thought it was interesting. http://www.nj.com/politics/index.ssf/2014/01/chris_christie_signs_law_slammed_as_flushing_water_quality_down_the_toilet.html#incart_river_default

Plan to put gas pipeline in Pinelands spurs ire

Not sure how any fan of the barrens and preservation could be ok with approving such a plan. The risk/reward ratio for projects like this are just not worth it. I'd rather have my taxes raised for new solutions and know it went towards preservation than risk any type of leak in these forests...

    NY, New England Vacation Ideas?

I just got back from our place in the Adirondacks. I've been all over New England and the dacks is still my favorite place. If you enjoy hiking, Id stay in the High Peaks region between Keane Valley and Lake Placid. Tons of hikes and water access. No need to pay for a campground, there are...

    Paddlers; 2013 Delaware River Sojourn

Agreed German. The Toms isnt as an attractive a trout river as the ones up in NW area of the state (south branch, musky, pequest, flat brook). I was surprised to see all the nymphs the Toms has though. Lots of mayfly and caddis nymphs if you overturn a few rocks. Id think the hatches would...

    Paddlers; 2013 Delaware River Sojourn

Fly fishing can be a challenge all of its own, Al. Figuring out what flies are hatching and what size the trout are biting can be tricky bussiness, especially for the novice fly fisherman and the fact that trout can be some of the most selective feeders out there. Id think more would be...

    Paddlers; 2013 Delaware River Sojourn

Id rather fish on my own anyday as well, but guides can be a great resource for an unfamiliar river. I dont own a drift boat, so a guide can come in handy for covering big water like the Del in such a boat. I can see them being especially beneficial when fly fishing a new river. They fish the...

    Paddlers; 2013 Delaware River Sojourn

Looks cool. $640 for eight days is pretty steep tho. You or I could use that for a 2-3 day guided fly fishing trip on the Del. lol

    bald eagles

Almost missed this guy the other day while out fishing. He was high enough to easily go unnoticed, but I usually glance up every few minutes in search of birds. The pic was from my phone and is pretty terrible, but you can make out the white head and tail.

I'm moving to Lacey township NJ

Dogs in the pines should definately wear Frontline or Adnantix. Frontline works great with my dog. If I ever do find ticks on him, they are already dead. The above advice for Sawyers on your clothing is great as well. Im more of a fall/winter hiker in the pines, as the ticks are light in the...

    16th Annual Barnegat Bay Festival-June 2, 2013

One of my buddies is an off-sea commercial fisherman and when he told me he went clamming with his family I knew it was fine. I also checked with the division. Tissue testing of shellfish met the National Shellfish Sanitation standards. http://www.state.nj.us/dep/bmw/sandy.html To each his own.
