    16th Annual Barnegat Bay Festival-June 2, 2013

Went clamming in bay last weekend. Was scared the storm would wreck the season, but about 100 clams were took in 2 hours. Here's to a clean summer in the bay :guinness:

Hide your snacks when in Brendan Byrne SF...Yogi is coming!

Byrne isnt that big, but dont forget it backs up to Greenwood, Stafford Forge, Penn SP, Wharton, etc. This area is the biggest undeveloped and wild tract in the state, so it makes sense for the state to release them here.

I'm moving to Lacey township NJ

Hi Kira, Welcome to the boards. I live in the Bamber section of Lacey. If you like the pines, you've picked a good spot to dwell. Where are you from upstate? We have a place in the Adirondacks, but I also do some hunting trips in the Cooperstown area and lots of fly fishing in the western...

    Hiking Greenwood Forest WMA?

There is nothing wrong with that, but I dont necessarily buy into people who preach about carbon footprints and live in beach mansions and drive 2 hummers around town towing motor boats. To be clear, Im sure the guy is very knowledgable and the classes might be worth every penny (pretty...

    Checking in

I usually dont use too much GPS, but up there my Garmin in the truck doesnt always work and the GPS on my cell phone goes in and out. A good map does wonders.

    Hiking Greenwood Forest WMA?

Seems there are mixed reports/opinions on whether or not there even was a "Stalking Wolf" (Tom's friend Rick's grandfather). I've heard him and Rick are made-up, but dont know for sure. Some of the things in his books do seem far fetched. Im sure he's a great woodsman, but I dont know about...

    Canoe Cedar Creek

Not sure I'd put a canoe in at Lacey Rd (kayak maybe). I did it on a hunting trip in early Jan. and there was tons of debis and downed branches/trees from Sandy. Perhaps someone has cleared the way since then, but Im unsure. The liveries dont start their trips that far up so no one really...

    Hiking Greenwood Forest WMA?

Greenwood is within yards from my house and I'll just chime in to say that there are thousands of hiking trails off the sand roads and all are easy to find. Some or more like quad and dirt bike trails, but hikable all the same. I usually like to explore waterways or fields and open areas, but...

    Checking in

I stay at Bear Creek anuually to fly fish the Big Flatbrook. Nice campground, decent rates, and right in the heart of the parks and forests. They allow alcohol too, unlike the state parks (if you're looking for that). Owners name is Ken and he's a state trooper, so its a pretty safe...

    Canoe Cedar Creek

Looks like decent weather. Seems like everytime there's a get-together I have prior arrangements. Enjoy the trip and Id bring those shades, even if its just too keep the pollen at bay from your eyes.

    Life Begins Anew

That explains it. I was through that area yesterday as well and saw the pickers in the burnt areas. I thought maybe they were picking mushrooms.

    NJ Camping

I've used reserveamerica for just about all of the cross-country camping we've done. The cost stinks, but you're really left with no option and it is a little convenient in that you can usually go staright to your site. Gabe, dutch ovens can be fun in bed, but if you push to hard you'll end up...

    Trails in wharton

Was it there when you moved in? If so, probably should have though of that beforehand. Otherwise, that doesnt sound fun, and I like Harleys. Just not next door all day long.

    Trails in wharton

I'll also say that I certainly don't think all state parks and WMAs should be open to ATVs, but see nothing wrong with opening some of the roads in certain areas to registered and insured vehicles. Greenwood for example is huge, and ATVs ride through there already regularly. Why not open just...

    Trails in wharton

You have to be kidding me. And you walk to all these WMAs and places within, right? Highly doubt it. Tell me the physical difference of damage done between me taking my quad to a WMA and you in a car/truck? I can legally drive my V8 4X4 pick-up all over WMAs, but you think my little polaris 500...

    Trails in wharton

Welcome Joe, As other have mentioned, ATVs are completely illegal on all state land in NJ, except the new park they opened, which will soon be privately owned. Dual sports are allowed in Wharton with registration, inspection, and a license. As much as I enjoy walking the pines, I also enjoy...

    Control burns

They've been burning Greenwood WMA since Sunday off 539. It was snowing in Whiting yesterday afternoon on my drive home, ash that is.

Like that one, Al. Great pics. Heres a great country rocker from the Canadian Rockies. Love this first tune: this second one tells a neat story:

Hiking to the Forked River Mountain...how?

You can park your car at rt 539 and then walk in via Bryant Rd (a dirt rd thats at least a couple miles walk to the mt). Just print a map because you have to stay to the left at 2 forks in the road. I usually just drive all the way back to the mt, though. There are some trails around the top...
