    Traffic in the Pines

It costs me $20-$25 in gas and tolls to make a trip to the pine barrens, which I do about 2-3 times a week. I have stopped making short stay trips out there. If I don't have at least two hours available to fish or four hours available to hike, I generally don't go. Gas consumption is down due...

    Fishing Osprey Photo/Video Opportunity

If anybody would like to get photos or video of Ospreys swooping down to catch fish, you can do that right now at Tuckahoe Lake. Every time I have fished at Tuckahoe Lake during the past two weeks I have witnessed Ospreys hovering over the water and swooping down to grab a fish. Sometimes they...

    What is it?

Nope, nobody is arguing or making ad hominem attacks. I do understand that this is a forum related to the pine barrens. Maybe 5% of the posts I have made here touch on the topic of origin, the rest are all about hiking, fishing...maybe a few political comments. Knowing that Al is a Creationist...

    What is it?

I suffer from the God delusion as well. I don't have enough faith to believe that time, matter and energy created itself and ordered itself. No evolutionist would look at that box in your photo and conclude that it arrived there by random chance, absent a designer, yet they will look at things...

    Perchin' The Pines

Went to Tuckahoe Lake Saturday for opening day for trout. First time they stocked that lake. There was about 20 anglers there total during the hour I fished. Didn't see one fish pulled up. Went to Lake Oswego and caught a pickerel on my first cast and several more thereafter.

    What is it?

Hey Al, If I was an evolutionist I would say that wooden box is the result of lighting striking a tree and random swirls of wind occurring over millions of years. :D Who knows, given the right conditions that box might evolve into a Baby Grand Piano some day. In fact, I bet if you dug under...

    Bass Boat In A Bag?

Now this looks pretty cool. A 9' inflatable bass boat that packs in a 24" bag, weighs 42 lbs, is durable, can handle a gas or electric motor with up to 85lbs of thrust and sets up in four minutes. You could keep this boat, an electric motor and a 12v battery in your car at all times and head out...

    Prohibiting outdoor, wood-burning furnaces?

If they passed an ordinance prohibiting procreation among blood relatives in North Cape May, a lot of the other problems would take care of themselves. :D

    pickerel fishing

Some people love Gulp bait, some people hate it...but everybody agrees that it's EXPENSIVE! I like it because of the convenience. I always keep a rod and a tackle box in my truck so if I'm driving around during the day (usually near saltwater) and the inspiration strikes me, I can just pull over...

My thoughts exactly. I've been saying that for 30 years now. :D

    pickerel fishing

Hi Strom, You know, you're the second person who's asked me to change my name. The first person to ask me was my father. LMAO I set out eight years ago to hike the length of the Batona Trail 100 times, so probably Batona Bob or something would be more appropriate. Old Crazy is kind of a goof...

    Anybody Fly Fish?

Also good advise. I live right on the bay, so I can practice casting from my dock.

    Anybody Fly Fish?

Good advise. Some of my best lures are hanging in the trees on Batsto Lake.

I fished Lake Oswego from the shoreline for about an hour on Sunday. Caught four pickerel. Three on small spinners and one on a Gulp worm.

Great info and a price that can't be beat! Thank you! Plus, Marlton is a lot closer to me than North Jersey.

    Anybody Fly Fish?

I have wanted to learn how to fly fish for a few years now. Any fly fishermen out there who have any tips on gear, techniques, fly tying and how to get started? I'm thinking about taking this guy's one day beginner course: http://www.ajflycasting.com/index.html

    2012 Pinelands Short Course

This was my 4th year attending the Short Course. Like others here, I was pretty frustrated the first year I attended because I didn't know where I was going after I registered. They did have a guy in the Parker Building asking everybody who entered if they needed directions to their classes, but...
