    Long Cripple

Now I know what a Cripple is. "....a ''cripple'' (a low, wet area where Atlantic white cedars grow), or a ''spong,'' where no cedars grow."

    Long Cripple

The target on this Topozone link measures approxamately 3 miles as the crow flies. It is a somewhat swampy area and is close enough to the plains to possibly fit the description. http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?z=18&n=4409137&e=546787&s=50&size=l&datum=nad83&layer=DRG25

I guess it's not a very large tree any more. I definately want to go explore there. I did go in the way Bunnymom3 described but saw no tires in a puddle. I guess they were frozen over and snow covered. Steve

    Howardsville.......almost made it.

Yesterday toward the end of a long day I took KenDawg up Howardsville Rd to show him where Howardsville is. You cannot gain access with your car from there and since Ken had slipped on the ice and was a bit sore I walked in for a peek. BEAUTIFUL!!! Having heard whispers that there is a back way...

    Pines

Very interesting. When I was googling for tar I did see a reference to "Pine Tar". I guess the tar they refer to is different from the Dino tar we are familiar with today. Steve

    Pines

Well here is part of the answer to your question. "Like many colonial Pinelands industrial sites, the sawmill and tar kiln at Webb's Mill are only a memory. Zebulon Webb established a sawmill and village here in 1774. A tar kiln was later built; however, both were in ruins by 1839. Today the...
