My initial response was that it was a Brown Thrasher. It was larger than any I have seen though. When I enlarged it a bit there seems to be a light ring around its neck. I couldn't find any photos of immature male ring necks but it doesn't really look like photos I have seen of female ringnecks.

Taken earlier today, 730 am, at Jakes Branch Park. Left appears to be a male bluebird and the right photo seems to be a female ring necked pheasant. Taken with 300 mm zoom lens. I thought the bluebird was a bluejay at first until I got home and downloaded the photo.

The 1950 storm had gusts over 100 mph. I remember the 1962 storm. I think it happened at Easter or very close to it. It tore up the Belmar boardwalk, where I lived at the time. Sand dunes were created on Ocean Ave and much of the boardwalk was splintered.
