    February FROGS....

Al, It doesnt grow too much in the Pine Barrens. it prefers a more rich soil and is found throughout most of NJ. Salem county has some as I imagine the western portions of Gloucester and Camden counties. I saw some last march at Oldman's Creek. Its a small bulb so it naturalizes like Daffodils.

    February FROGS....

I agree with OJI, Claytonia virginica, one of the first ephemerals of Spring. Legend has it that the colonists names it Spring Beauty coz the bulbs are edible and they had a renewed food source in spring. I saw this one at Oldman' s Creek on a walk last year. Its a charming little flower.

The Sarracenia Flava was Fleeced (Trumpet Pitcher Plant)

Wow, they left quite a hole. while the plants ae not native here, I agree, its scary to think that this could have been the native Pitcher Plant or orchids or any other Pine Barrens species. This is exactly why I do what I do with plants so that folks have affordable access without having to...

    Thompson's Beach, Shellpile, and Bivalve

I had gone out to Thompson's Beach back around 1999 or 2000 to see what it was like. I do remember the tower and the fireplace, thought at that time, it didn't have all the vegetation it does today. Been wanting to get back there again, maybe this summer. I was in Job's Point not long ago...

    Thompson's Beach, Shellpile, and Bivalve

Woodjin, I live in EHT, not far from Morris Beach, aka Job's Point. It started out as a vacation resort for wealthy black professionals from Philadelphia. At that time, Blacks were not welcome in resorts like Ocean City, so a Black business woman, Jennie Morris, who bought the property in 1939...

Al, What is ACE? When the Unitarian church was built in Pomona on 575, It took two years of Pine Snake studies before they determined there were none. The they could finally build. Now the Unitarians are basically environmentalists so they went along peacefully, not sure a developer would be...

    Walk in the Woods- Berlin

Yea they do tend to be on Saturdays. I did the one in March. Maybe I saw you there. That was a good one. Lots of Spring ephemerals sprouting up. Also I got a somewhat blurry shout of two Bald Eagles. And a Bee hive in a broken cedar that was down in a recent storm. Got some nice shots of that one.
