    New Jerseys Remotest Spot

Little Beach once had several cabins and there are utility poles still standing. One of the cabins remains and was jointly owned by some folks who now have life tenency, even as it is technically now owned by the federal govt. There was once a plan before the depression to build a road from...

    Thousands of Red Admirals

I saw them yesterday as well. I went home for lunch and as I was leaving for work I noticed all these butterflies passing through the yard. Then I saw the flying infront of my car everywhere. Sitting at the light at 322, I caught a glimps of one on the ground, and drove slow when the light...

Organically grown native Pine Barrens and Shore plants for sale

Al, I think what you be referring to isn't a grass at all actually, but a sedge called Carex pensylvanica. Most true grass arow over a foot high, but I remember this was one of the species suggested by Russell Juelg as a native alternative to roadside grasses that need mowing. Its drought...

My first Orchid of the season

I just checked my "Wild Orchid of the Mid-Atlantic" and I would agree that its Orchis spectabilis. I don't see anything else like it in that guide. It would appear that Galearis spectabilis is a synonym.

My first Orchid of the season

Al I use the Latin interchangably. Around fellow students I use it, but with most customers I don't coz like you said, they go Huh? I dont like to make anyone feel bad that way, however at the talk I gave on Sunday I did touch on the Latin and what it means to native plant seekers so that they...

My first Orchid of the season

I just came back from a day of botanizing. I had stopped originally looking for Pitcher plant, thinking I might find some here. There were none, but what a surprise I got! I found a nice population of Twayblades by accident because that little white flower above had drawn me in where I was...

    Freeze warning tonight

It got my whole tray of Little Bluestem. I came out to see every blade all laying on the sides. Fortunately nothing else was damaged, and I do have some more plugs in the Greenhouse. But strange given its a native grass. But maybe it will re-grow. Time will tell and a lesson was learned.
