Owl Cam - Owlets Growing Up

That owl cam is just up the road from my house. We have them living in the Mexican fan palm tree next door, they eat a lot of vermin and look cool at night when I light them up in my spotlights.

    Cycling in the Pines

A helmet? Oh yeah, head protection for up to 13 mph travel. I would think a motor would be more important than a helmet, but that's experience talking, not sentimentality. There's not enough DEET in Shop-Rite to get me to use a bicycle on the Batsto-Washington fire road.

    Trashing the pines

A couple of guys in my hometown own them, they're great trucks. Like all military surplus should be offerred for sale to the public at the "end" of their military lives.

    where to fish?

Seven Bridges near Mystic Islands is a good spot. The Wading River Bridge is also a decent place if you don't mind the cars going by. Try turtle creek at the end of the road by the same name if you want some real peace and solitude... How many if not countless happy hours were spent here by...

What happens if Oyster Creek Shuts down now--Mar 29

Er, uh, ladies and gentlemen, keep moving and don't look behind the curtain! And anybody with a snake in their signature picture is OK by me...

    Off Roading!!!!

bkelly89, ignore the trolls, it's a fantastic area to off-road. Bear in mind that in the Wharton State Forest it's illegal to consume or possess alcoholic beverages, so keep them in a locked compartment or trunk where only probable cause or a signed warrant may enter in. There seem to be endless...

McCartyville and Wading River Mills, 1848

No doubt that no matter what turn the events took, everyone ended up at Half Moon Tavern!

    Tick`s & Chigger`s

Not true. A magnifying glass indicated just how small the little critters were. Nostalgic for ticks and chiggers...you see, we have (virtually) no bugs in the Southwest.

    Tick`s & Chigger`s

Looking back, I find it hilarious that I had ticks and chigger attacks too numerous to count. As a little boy I was allowed to put the tick in the ashtray and light its rear end with a lit match to kill it. What a thrill! My mother was an ER nurse, first at Atlantic City Hospital and then...

New Pine Barrens - Places to explore?

The best way to explore the pine barrens is to rent a canoe at Mick's and start heading down the Wading River from Speedwell Bridge to Leek's Landing. Canoeing will show you the forest the way it was before the automobile, and camping out along the banks will give you time to explore a large...

Anyone watching Ken Burn's America's National Parks?

Well man your borders, and don't let 'em in, because here out west the so-called "environmentalists" are elitists who don't hunt, fish, hike or camp, off-road or enjoy the land, just work to limit, close, regulate, impose, and prohibit just about every activity that people used to enjoy...

    Blueberry Farms Labor Violations

Kids these days! Hey, I picked blueberries for $ in Wading River when I was 7 years old. Where's my check?!? :colbert:

Anyone watching Ken Burn's America's National Parks?

It's interesting, but it's dripping with tree-hugger aging-hipster free-to-be-you-and-me viewpoints crowding out everything else. Other than the bias I think it's great, especially the film work and careful historical accuracy.

    Chigger Bites...! ouch!

Rubbing alcohol on the ankles, wash and dry. Done. My city wife won't let me take her back to Wading River again. Said the bees just weren't worth the bother. "Honey, I says, those are mosquitoes".

    New Guy (Family)

Welcome to the forum Stanbo! And don't be apologetic about owning a vehicle that lets you enjoy the forest - that's what God put it there for! Of course there are some who want to put gates up at every trailhead and make hikers subsist on teaberries and sassafrass bark, but after all there's...

    Land Preserved, Turtle Creek Rd.

Well, that's good news! Here out west things tend to be "preserved" to the point of keeping everyone out except a few elite folks. I USED TO live just up the road a piece from the Swan Bay WMA. It was formerly privately owned as a hunting preserve.

What was your first (Pine Barrens) car?

Did your dad's acquaintance at the drugstore raise pigeons? My sources say you're probably talking about Mr. Miller who bought the store when Blankenbush retired.

My Merchantville source says there was no Ford Dealership in town, and that Rice and Holman was in Pensauken.
