    Doctor James Still's Plant Lists

PBX & Jerseyman: Many thanks! Bob - Jerseyman has answered your first question. Ro is currently reading Dr. Still's autobiography and has not found anything specific so far. Jerseyman: Ro is not a volunteer there, just responding to a request to do a presentation. She os looks forward to...

    Doctor James Still's Plant Lists

Ro's been asked by a volunteer involved in Dr. Still's site to put together a picture show of the Pine Barrens plants Dr. Still used. Does anyone know of a reference that would provide a list of such plants?

    New Years day "hike"....

I very regretfully missed this one - ole man's problems - but Ro tells me all enjoyed it. Thanks to Turtle/Terry for her organizing it.

    Whitesbog Tundra Swans

Ro & I were at Whitesbog late this afternoon, got Patty Rehn to come join us - we saw 100+ Tundra Swans on a lower reservoir and 40+ more at the northern shore of the big upper reservoir. Most I've ever seen there.

    High Crossing never disappoints

Having braved a ton of these "puddles" all over the Pines, always very cautiously and apprehensively, I've wondered about how and where they form and get to this sorry state. Seems they're always where the water table is right at ground level, or even at an occasional water runoff route. If...

    Where is this?

The explanation for the rocks' location should be interesting. Or, how did those huge rocks get there?

    Giants among us

There's a ton of web sites addressing this fictitious article. One pointed out that there's a statement on the masthead of the quoted website pointing out that it's articles are fictitious. Seems there's a cult of people believing in giants in past times. A recent TV series catered to them...

    Mute Swans

Ro and I toured Franklin Parker Preserve this afternoon to get botanical data and saw groups of Tundra Swans of 4 and 10 individuals on Eagle Reservoir, 4 more on a reservoir just to the north and 4 more on an old bog in the Jakes Spung area. At the bogs east of Presidential Lakes we saw a big...

    Stone locations

When you guys locate a stone, evidently you take a GPS reading. Curiosity rules me: how close are the stones to recorded locations - i.e., how accurate were the old surveys? I guess this raises the questions of what reference point was originally used vs today's reference, did the stone move...

    Help on Applegate Sawmill

A week ago and I’d not heard of Cattus Island, and now I’ve been there and it’s a subject here on the Forum. Fantastic timing! On 25 October 2014 I sent the following e-mail to Karl Anderson. Karl responded with several e-mails that included the comments below plus a 2000 plant list. ***...

New, third local species of Leopard Frog

Facebook friend of my wife Ro tipped her to following article about a frog species in our area newly recognized as a new species. <http://www.sciencecodex.com/new_frog_discovered_inhabiting_i95_corridor_from_connecticut_to_north_carolina-144512>

Rocket launch in Virginia will be visible in New Jersey Monday evening

Watched from a field on Retreat Rd 'till 1905 EDT, nothing. Having spent decades in the space business, knew I could spend all night and still see nothing. Read on Wallops' site it's re-scheduled for 1822/6:22 pm EDT Tuesday. Guess the 23 minutes difference in launch times is to acommodate...

    Strange Stone

Manumuskin The sand road the stone was in had lots of rounded quartz pebbles up to maybe an inch and half in size. The sand was yellowish, and looked the same all the way into the woods wherever it was bare. We see similar soil/pebbles down on some dike roads at Parker Preserve, brought from...

    Strange Stone

Yesterday, while we were walking in Greenwood Forest WMA, so Ro could photograph a Buck Moth (saw lots, pictured none) we ran across a strange stone in the middle of a main sand trail. Pictured below, it was the only stone of this size anywhere around, was of a different material, bore no...

    Burrs Mill

Thank you very much, Jerseyman, for the detailed information about Burrs Mill. Especially interesting were the results in Colonial days of conviction of what we call grand theft, and the people associated with the mill who were with the famous. Driving by that area will now mean much more.....

    Lebanon State Forest Project

When in 1984 we bought 8+ acres off the Babbi Fox "Fox Ridge Farm", originally a 240 acre farm owned by the Stevenson's, we had put in concrete markers at the inland corners and nails in the middle of Smithville Rd in Springfield Twp. The background to their placement is a fairly long but I...
