    Tavern in Pleasant Mills, NJ

Comment: in these posts of historical places, people have done a huge amount of research into original documents as well as written histories. But. In the documentation examined I see deeds, newspaper items, diaries, maps, regulations and ordinances, etc. But never a reference to County tax...

    Capewell Glass Negative Collection

I have a large picture taken about 1900 of my great-grandfather and his kin and friends with one well dressed young (20-ish?) lady standing at far right facing to the left at 90 degrees to the group. An older cousin of mine told me she did it "to show her good side".

Proposed natural gas pipeline through the NJPB's?

Let's hope that the Pinelands commissioners remember the oath they took and forsake any lingering thoughts they may have of loyalty to those who appointed them or who tried to persuade them to ignore their responsibilities. The voices of 4 prior Governors should weigh heavily on them when they...

    Public Hearing....

I'll say the cloth sign is new. We went right by its location yesterday on leaving the Cedear Bridge Tavern re-enactment and it wasn't there then.....

    Cedar Bridge Engagement Re-enactment

Ro & I and Bernie & Doreen Knaupp enjoyed the Cedar Bridge re-enactment this afternoon. Beautiful weather joined by an MC of the re-enactment who did a superb job. The re-enactors included ones from CT and MA who demonstrated their weapons. A good size audience gave them well- deserved applause...

    Cedar Bridge Reenactment Dec. 27

From the referenced website: "... which remains standing and is regarded as the oldest tavern in New Jersey. “This building itself dates back to 1860, but the property itself goes back to the 18th Century,” said Hart. ..." Am I the only one confused by this? I can't believe a tavern built in...

    Bats Active

Damn. Just discovered a BIG typo that I missed by not checking: the title should be BATS with a "B" Thanks to gipsie, Gibby and Spung-man for interesting information. This site works!!!

    Bats Active

On our way back from Colliers Mills lake this evening (21 Dec) at dusk, we saw bats flying in the pines and later one over the road near New Egypt. Glad to see some survivors (?) of the white nose disease, but.... What are they doing out in the end of December?

That oval in the map just to the east/right of the blue rectangle with the "P" in it is the site of the Atlantic City board track. A place of interest to all us car racing nuts. Virtually nothing remains of it today; I walked it 30+ years ago.

    Fish Factory

Last Friday Bernie Knaupp, Ro, and I went birding at Oyster Creek/Leeds Point, Brigantine/Forsythe NWR, and Great Bay Blvd. Saw/they photoed Snowy Owl, Eagles, etc. Views from Brig showed drastic changes in surroundings from Hurricane Sandy, Fish Factory in particular. Took following picture...

    Speed Bump

Just saw in downtown Mt. Holly that the two speed bumps on Washington St. near the Post Office have been taken out and the road service is level. Anyone know the story behind this?

    Book about Maps

Picked up at Costco/Moorestown a copy of "On the Map" by Simon Garfield. Interesting read about history of maps and cartography. From its inside cover: "A mind-expanding exploration of the way the world looks". Very informational.

    Reed's Beach

Earlier this week Ro and I were doing our "try every road to the Bay" bit down near Cape May. We ran out the road to Reed's Beach at its end at Bidwell Creek, saw this stone and just had to share its picture.
