    Hurry up, hard frost!

Frost on grass, bushes, etc., here in Leisuretowne (Bob's Seizuretown) this morning. Temperature at house upper 20's (exact number not accurate because of radiation from the house). That should do it for chiggers and most other bities.

Yes. Hadn't seen your post when I put this in. We'd been on a botany quest down that way when I saw the plane in the Google Earth shot. Neat area.......

    Myriad Lots on 563

Thanks to a recent posting on this site, there's a map of NJ showing property lines all over the state. The map shows zillions of little lots from Chatsworth north to NJ 72, most without listed owners. Was this to be a super-big development that never happened? When were the subdivisions...

    New Spiranthes Spots

Saturday tour report. Spiranthes at Bill Haines’ have spread to west side of the road. Map (new to me) in Batsto Visitors Center shows extent of Wharton’s planned Pine Barrens water supply system for Philadelphia. Would’ve involved massive changes. Park Road Spiranthes in bloom and in new area...

    Great Day in the Pines

Guy, many thanks for the first hand info. I'll pass it on to Bill since he gave me his e-mail address. Do I take it that there are/were 21 stones between the one we saw and the origin at Egg Harbor? johnny b

    Great Day in the Pines

Thanks for all the info, Guy. We'll look for the 70 & 206 markers since we frequent those roads on our botany forays. Maybe we'll figure out the line and Ro and I'll do some tramping.... Incidentally, during our Saturday outing Bill Bolger said his ambition is to walk the Keith line in time to...

    Great Day in the Pines

Another great day in the Pines. Ro & I inventoried plants on one of our botany test sites on the Franklin Parker Preserve, then we met Mark Szutarski and Ann Cavanaugh and identified plants on a section of the Rte 563 shoulder. This evening Ro & I went to Whitesbog, photographing the sunset...

    Bartram in the Pines

Spent an exceedingly interesting day in the Pines today. A Philadelphia Botanical Club outing, most ably led by Joel Fry and Bill Cahill, abetted by Old Town Hunter, Mark Szutarski, Bill Bolger, visited the areas John Bartram used in his collecting of plants and seeds back in the mid to late...

    Frienship Jaunt

Ro and I went for a walk in the Pines below Friendship this afternoon. Took a trail we last used 25+ years ago. Trail end at abandoned bogs (Bulls Branch) completely overgrown - frustrating but still a good jaunt. Used to continue and walk the bog dikes. Passed large dump in woods with old...

    Botany

Howdy Gibby: There was an excellent presentation at the PPA in August about various aspects of the Pine Barrens Gentian, given by a PhD candidate , Ryan Rebozo. Among the surprising (at least to me) things he mentioned was that the number of petals can vary from, I believe, 3 thru 5. Ryan said...

New Jersey Tax List Search-new mapping tool?

Badfish740: Wonderful site, on my Bookmarks list. Checked several recently sold properties and it's up-to-date. However, it has "Null" on several others. Glaring example: 1,000+ acre, mucho +, Helis Stock Farm on Rte 537 in Springfield Twp. Several others near me, off 206 in Southampton Twp...

    To the Moon Alice....

Hey, the name reverted back to Cape Canaveral a LONG time ago. I was a regular visitor down there to NASA but mainly to USAF Patrick AFB since I was RCA's program manager of the tracking radars used on both the USAF Eastern Test Range and the NASA worldwide net. Also of the similar radars down...

Woodstock With Better Food: Yasgur’s Farm and Food Network’s Bubba-Q Take Them There at Hedger House

Nothing to do with the Pine Barrens but of historical interest. The biggest crowd was NOT at Woodstock, it was at the following musicfest at Watkins Glen. The 400,000 tickets (number I remember Mal Currie, Glen promoter, telling me) sold out, fences were trampled down and maybe about as many...

    Tree Frog?

Bob: We didn't go back there when they were "singing" in the yard. We haven't heard them since that night, and if they were doing so from the swale on the following nights we'd have heard them. One night stand???

    Tree Frog?

The area between the houses had been soaked by a sprinkler system. Subsequently it dried out and we haven't heard them.

    Tree Frog?

Howdy dragoncjo - no, we're in Burlington County, retirement community that pbx calls Seizuretowne. There were several of tje critters calling at the same time, located in the bushes between our house and the neighbor to the north - maybe 25 feet space. They were LOUD, 'way above crickets and...
