Garmin discontinues the Oregon series and some others

I appreciate the links, thanks! Maybe an offline mode could be a feature of a future version of your app? Similar to how Google Maps allows you to download a subset of map data for use without a network connection. I understand it's a web app at the moment but just a thought. Not a must have -...

Garmin discontinues the Oregon series and some others

Hi Boyd - do you still have map files that work for the Oregon series? I have a 450t and it'd be real neat to load it up with your topo map and keep it in the camera bag, in case of need for truly offline mapping. I think currently it has generic Garmin topo maps from 2009 on it. Something more...

Learned Something Interesting Today (Tundra Swans and Cranberry Bogs)

Saw some of these at Whitesbog a few weeks ago, but I didn't know what they were for, either. I assumed they had something to do with the cranberry harvest. It's not a tight grid, either - they are pretty far apart. Must be something psychological that makes the fowl not want to land near them.

    Glass Insulators

That's a very interesting question I can't answer, but in general I imagine the power equipment is from lines that must have ran along the tracks. Maybe in part servicing the NJ Silica Sand Company adjacent to the Fries Mill site? Or - on the other hand, perhaps they manufactured electrical...

Your first digital pictures of the Pines

Ah, yeah. Date stamps in EXIF data on early digital cameras can be pretty unreliable. I think the reason is that non-volatile memory was expensive and unless your camera also had a little button cell battery to preserve the clock, every time you changed the batteries the date could get reset...

Your first digital pictures of the Pines

Nitpicking, but it couldn't have been an S414 in 2001, maybe an S304 at 3.3MP? Or more likely this is actually from 2003 or so? Either way, you had access to something a lot better than I had. I really wanted a Dimage 7 back then but it was far, far outside my price range.

Your first digital pictures of the Pines

That second one is surely the album cover for some sort of Piney band. Or if it isn't, it should be.

Your first digital pictures of the Pines

I'm not sure when exactly my earliest digital shots ever were. I had some no-brand digital camera in 2000-2001 that shot on internal memory only in something like QVGA resolution (320x240) - seems like very few of those files survived to present. In 2002 I bought what I considered a "real"...

Maple syrup production ramps up in the Pine Barrens of NJ

For what it's worth, the little sign attached to the tree in my photo says "Sugar Maple - Acer Saccharum - Native to eastern North America"

Maple syrup production ramps up in the Pine Barrens of NJ

I saw the sap vacuum setup they have installed at Batsto the other day, it's really neat. Never seen something like this before. The whole thing is powered off a deep cycle marine battery. Stockton should definitely post some more information about how it was built and the overall project it's...

    Parker Preserve in February

As it happens, I stopped back in the preserve yet again this weekend on the way back from Forsythe, in time for sunset and some more great lighting. I got some nice photos out there and it was a good test of the new lens, but I think these are better. (Yes, I took a photo of the...

    Parker Preserve in February

Thank you for the words of welcome, everyone! This is such an interesting forum to read through; it's been here so many years and I'm not sure how I never came across it before. I also never came across Boyd's Maps which is incredible. These are all with a Sony A7IV and a Sigma Art 24-70 lens -...

    Parker Preserve in February

Hello - I'm new to the forums here, although not new to the pines :) I took a very enjoyable walk through the preserve over the weekend with a new camera. Cool temperatures but very sunny and pleasant out; saw plenty of fellow hikers. Just thought I would share some of the better shots I got -...
