    Carranza Memorial

They cut down the big, beat up old tree next to the memorial. The area has also been graded. It's sad because I believe it to be a witness tree. I often pondered about the damage to it. Just a quick count of rings gets 100. I will go back, clean it up and get a better count.

I am digitizing my photos and I am looking for a way to attach properties to files, in this case JPGs, so I can search for them in different ways. When I think about my pictures sometime I think of a date, subject, and place. Rather than have copies stored in different ways I was hoping to get...

    The Skit Bridge

It's internal structure is starting to show, nails and a metal bar of some sort that looks like holds ths planks together. Most of the wear is where everyone drives it so I straddle, just like avoiding the ruts in puddles.

    Trashing the pines

Some recient pictures of what's going on out Carranza way. A telephone pole with a long guide wire that was blocking one of the roads into Batona Camp about 1 month ago. We're spray painting the trees now, High Crossing. Like one arrow isn't enough. There are marks just like this out at...

I found this intact shelter while bushwacking near the Batona Camp this morning. There was no campfire or other disturbance around it. It did appear to have been used, there was a broken flash light in it. How to build a shelter...

    Friendship today

It was cold and everything was solid. We saw only an occasional bird or mouse track. The drive out there was better than I expected. The bridge at Friendship is completely covered in graffitti.

    Abandoned guinea pig at Carranza

We finally got out for a walk at Carranza at 1 PM today. Right before the first entrance to the lot we saw this little guy abandoned in the snow. It was scared and wouldn't leave it's shavings. We got it home in spite of having a terrier and Great Dane in the Wrangler. It is eating and drinking...

    Rail Road odditys

A couple of finds along the tracks from Carranza to the Batsto trestle. These unusual metal pieces were occasionally under the tracks, both inside and outside the rails near the Quarter Mile Run. I've only seen them in this section of track. They were always along side a tie but not...
