    Carranza road

Does anyone know the name of this road before Carranza crashed? Does anyone know of pictures of the plane wreck and details? What I find on the web is just standard boiler plate American Legion stuff.

    Goshen Pond to Atsion Lake

Saturday we decided to paddle around Atsion Lake, and the day being what it was we ended up paddling upstream to the plastic bridge. There were no obstructions to speak of and the idea was born to paddle from Goshen Pond to Atsion the next day. I hadn't done that section in a few years and I...

    Odd sights in the pines

Here are some out of place items I found reciently while wandering off the trail. A barrel hoop 10 feet up in a cedar. Must have been a long time ago. A porcelan bowl 8 feet up in a pine. An old drum, with bottels and cans inside. Makes me wonder who, when, why.

    Scat identification

On my hike today I kept seeing white scat. Not very large as you can see next to pine needles. Why is it white and what would have made it?

A morning stroll through Friendship Bogs

Monday morning we took a slow walk through my favorite place in the pines, spending as much time listening as looking. A cold but very still morning A stregically placed bridge A bog asleep, almost. The range of contrast was a challenge to the camera. An upwelling from an...

    What made this trail?

This strange trail over the ice went into an unfrozen upwelling from another bog. Beavers walk although they drag their tail, but the motion that created this looks different.

Forest fire SW of Atsion Lake

I left my house at 3:30 to go into Tabernacle and didn't notice any smoke. Traveling back south on 206 at 3:45 I saw a huge cloud of smoke. I continued to atsion where 206 was closed and emergency vehicles were arriving. With the wind and being so dry this could be bad.

    Coyote sighting

We had a real great sighting of a large coyote near Hampton Furnace this morning. He crossed in front of the jeep just as we were nearing Hampton Furnace. We took a short hike, 5.6 miles, on the Batona trail between Bulltown and Evans Bridge yesterday. Along were Marianne, Willow a 6 year old great dane and 1 year old Buffy, a Jack Russell Terrier. Lots of time to sniff and picnic since Willow gets a bit creeky after longer hikes (so do I)...
