    Hurricane Bill

Very cool site. I'm a weather geek myself. Not really hurricane related but here are my two favorite radar sites: http://www.wunderground.com/radar/map.asp http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/full.php

    Purchase A & B Stone, and a Canal

Roughly in the same category as that five-gallon can of paint thinner out at Calico.

    Noah?...

I was paddling the Mullica south of Atsion yesterday, down to just north of Locks Bridge Rd. It was soggy and hot, but surprisingly not buggy at all, at least not until later in the day when the skeeters came out. Really high water and a good current, too. We started south and paddled...

    Just an observation (Rt. 539)

I kind of do. I was always into running and gunning types of outdoor games when I was a kid, and as an adult I still occasionally play multiplayer shooter games. It feeds into a deep-seated male need for conflict and adventure that most of us would much rather experience in our desk chairs :)...

    Burlington Island and Jessup's Grove

Welcome, Bruce. That image is a treasure. Thanks for posting it, and the story about your grandfather's swim. I popped the pic into a viewer and blew it up, hoping to see some more detail of the further vessel. I didn't, and about all I can say is that she's a sidewheel steamer flying a large...

    Just an observation (Rt. 539)

I don't have any problem with cameras at some of the worst sites.

What was your first (Pine Barrens) car?

My first car? 1964 Ford stepside F-150, in red. The first car I took into the pines was a Chevette. Eventually we busted a ball joint in the woods out past Atco.

    Sorrow at Winslow Junction

It will be interesting to see what happens. Many times these boutique railroads are the result of one person's dream and ambition. I wonder if there will be people who want to keep it running?

    Reward Offered

Two words... "young" and "male." They've been trouble since the dawn of time. What was it Twain said? Something like: "Every boy should be placed into a barrel at the age of 13, and fed through the bunghole until he is 21, at which time a decision can be made whether to let him out or drive home...

    Lower Forge / Unbridge revisited

Very interesting report, Ed. I've tried to come down to that spot from High Crossing and the Hampton area at one time or another, but for various reasons never made it all the way. I think I'll go north from QB on my next outing and check it all out.

    Chocolate Lab

Check with these guys too... http://www.noahsarknj.org/Home.asp That's where we adopted our English Lab. They rescue a lot of unwanted puppies from hunting dog litters down south, where the breeders often don't want all the animals. The adoption fee is quite reasonable.

    Martha Area

You may have to just leave this at the stage of "unconfirmed but widely repeated legend." There has been so much vandalism of historic sites that I doubt anyone will even go so far as to confirm whether it exists.

Staten Island man pleads guilty to Pinelands killing

You and I both. He should be excuted. I'm wary of the death penalties risks, but there are plenty of cases where the crime is heinous and there is no reasonable doubt who did it.

    Calico Trip

Nice trip! I would like to get back there soon and search a little more widely, but I don't believe there is much more to see. As for what Calico was, I agree with the others: Calico initially was likely a pleasant spot for some of the Martha employees to live. Later it was agricultural, i.e. bogs.

Searching For The J Roger Brick Stone

Great photo of the Lilly, and /respect for the hike. I don't believe I have that in me.

    Atsion Get-Together: Sunday, August 23, 2009

I'll be there, as long as Michele can get the day off, and hell, maybe even if she can't. Will be great to see you all again, and I can taste those wings already.

    Atsion Mansion report

Neat stuff. Nice to see the inside redone. But man, what the hell happened to the hand rail on that ramp? Maybe it's just the angle but it looks beat on.

    Getting Away

Just beautiful, Guy. You're really developing an eye. I lived in New Hampshire for a few years, as well as in Rhode Island, and I have spent a ton of time in Vermont. Your photos really bring back memories. That cloud pic is striking. Must have been a powerful down draft. I bet if you had been...
