How do we stop the damage?

I completely agree that the State Park Police need more funding and will gladly join an effort to support that. The lack of response on labor day is probably because of how many ATV calls they were getting that day. I hope to have an exact account soon. Dispatchers also assign an urgency to a...

How do we stop the damage?

I often have similar experiences, but that is the way it has been for as long as I have been around. You could sit on one spot for weeks and not see a single soul(or police officer), then one week a group of ATVs or jeeps comes through and tears the place apart. The issue is that sporadic damage...

How do we stop the damage?

I have to address this because it's just not the case. I drive on the forest roads quite often and I would not be happy if there was not a reasonable amount of motorized routes available. It would make many things more difficult and would not be a conservation benefit in my opinion. However...

How do we stop the damage?

It's the DEP that has kicked the can, they couldn't handle the heat and have punted to the next administration. I have watched this problem grow and worsen during my life and these mudders are robbing future generations of some of the most beautiful places of the Pines. How horrible is it that...

How do we stop the damage?

DEP officials have already said there will be no more Park Police for Wharton or anywhere else during this administration. Personally, I think we would have more success waiting for Godot than waiting for Christie to increase the budget on anything. I like the idea of the posting of a crime...

How do we stop the damage?

They didn't show up once in 3 and a half hours. Not only did they not patrol the areas where we were monitoring during that time, but they didn't show when we gave them GPS and had violators on the scene. This isn't the Park Police's fault. This is the DEP's fault for refusing to provide them...

How do we stop the damage?

Every single unblocked ORV site that I monitor has fresh tracks going through it- this includes Jemima Mt which has a gate, but the gate alone has proven insufficient. We had 10 volunteers go and watch locations last Monday and we made 5 calls to the DEP Hotline to report 12 illegal...

Apple Pie Fire Tower - Fence/Gate being installed?

We did three cleanups there this summer and painted over the graffiti each time. We picked uo four or five Tvs out there as well. FFS has gotten sick of the vandalism it seems. It's a real loss, but at least people can still go up when a FFS tower employee is on duty

    Winslow WMA Crackdown !

That area is where this video is from. The person that recorded it tried to claim it was in Pennsylvania. Someone named Dave driving. Pinelands tags.

A tough trip down the Nescochague

Yeah, matter there was a close call at one point. The amount of walking we had to do was complicated by the amount of underwater logs that ran the width of the river. That camera has not had an easy life

A tough trip down the Nescochague

4.5 miles in 7 and a half hours down the toughest river I have had the pleasure of paddling(or perhaps walking). Started at the Old Bridge and finished up at Batsto Church. There may have been over 100 blow downs on the trip, I lost count. Some evidence of maintenance done 10-20 years ago on a...

    PB National Park?

"But at its best, the site—and its users—reflect the way petitions can spur discussion and transformation, particularly on the hyper-local level, which is often where the most fixable problems can be found." I see the value from the discussion.

    PB National Park?

It's an interesting topic. Note likely at all, but still interesting. I think the petition author may have been a student, and she was able to get almost 6,000 people to sign her petition. Even if they don't know the nitty gritty of the CMP and the history of preservation efforts, the signers...

    PB National Park?

What I am trying to communicate is that not all National Parks have the same rules, they are subject to local concerns and customs. In my opinion, traditional practices such as hunting should be taken into account during any federal land management designation or regulation.

    PB National Park?

The largest National Park in the country allows subsistence hunting. Wrangell St-Alias. They do not want people going in and sport hunting wolves and grizzlies in the Park area, but the local people are able to hunt, fish, and trap to use as part of their diet. Where cultural concerns have been...

    PB National Park?

There are provisions that can be made at the time a Park is designated by Congress. If that ever was to happen in the Pines or some portion of them it would be very important to get that set in stone from the beginning. The anti-hunting crowd has been successful in removing measures that would...

Questions for the canoe (and fix-it) guys

Sitting position, seat height, and paddling style all matter here, but I want a paddle that's hand grip does not exceed the height of my chin when the paddle blade is fully submerged in water . This makes a big difference for my elbow during a long journey.
