    First Timer

Just a quick note on a few things you said. The pine snake is not endangered but threatened. And you can own pine snakes as long as they were aquired from out of state and you can produce a receipt for the animals. So yes, you can add them to your permit or get a permit for them.

    snake venom?

:siren: The snake with the red being described can be a milk snake or a corn snake also. As far as moccasin's are concerned they are not found north of the Dismal Swamp in Virginia.

extended heat wave harmful to critters?

:guinness: :guinness: Gatorade has an advantage over water because it has electrolytes which are important. Without them you can dehydrate much faster. That is the reason a doctor will tell you to make sure an infant is given Pedialyte to prevent dehydration. The sodium in Gatorade will...

    Corzine won't veto Pinelands project

This is directed to all the people who voted for Corzine. Now you see what you got. A politician who has always been money motivated. Not that most aren't, but he's more so. Why give up being a CEO on Goldman Sachs for what he would call a small paycheck. Well when you can be instrumental in...

    The Luck Continues...NJ Pine Barrens

The reddish blotches are not typical but not uncommon either. That's a nice pine though.

    possible illegal pine catching

:siren: Bad idea. The state is strict about releasing anything into the wild. Plus you can do more harm than good by doing so because once some snakes are in captivity for a while they can transfer pathogens and such into the wild populations. Nice thought but don't do it. Just my opinion.

    possible illegal pine catching

I think he was talking about his bad luck in breeding them this year. He doesn't say he caught the snakes in question. Plus they are both babies and nice ones at that. Contact the state and ask them what the procedure would be in order for you to buy them. I know it's possible with documentation...

    purchasing pets

You can as long as you can show proof that it was not wild caught. The state will want to know the source of the animal.

    Lots of Fields

:siren: If you're thinking of looking for snakes and stuff there just beware of the fact that the area has game wardens on it much of the time. Even though you don't do anything illegal they will stop you to ask questions.

    pueblan milksnake

 From that pic it looks more like your snake is an annulata or celaenops than it does a pueblan. It's hard from the pic to tell without seeing the head better.

    Oswego Kayak trip 7/4/06

No Problem 4X4JIM. I agree that the laws/rules they have are rediculous. Just be careful and aware of whos around. I got reamed out one time for picking up a box turtle that was crossing the road on Rt. 539 and moving it to the grass on the side it was traveling to. A game warden in a pick-up...

    Oswego Kayak trip 7/4/06

I was just trying to let you know to be careful. Personally I don't give a crap what you do. If no one had said anything to you and you got busted you probably could have said, "why didn't anyone ever mention it to me" and been all worked up over that too. And yes the rangers are part of law...

    Oswego Kayak trip 7/4/06

It is a stupid law but the state considers picking up an animal as taking possession. They have also harrassed people for so much as touching animals and called it harrassing the animal. Rediculous. :jeffd:

    conspicuous by its absence...?

The main focus was as you say but it was mentioned that commercial collecting may have impacted the animals. This may be true with certain animals like the bog turtles that live in small pockets of land with specialized requirements. Corn snakes have never been very common. The corn snakes like...

    conspicuous by its absence...?

Also if someone is interested in collecting corn snakes or any snake I doubt they would come to the pine barrens and new jersey, I could be wrong, but I think they would choose somewhere else, were there success rate would be higher. Very true.

    conspicuous by its absence...?

This is not the case at all. They are definately less common now but they look the same as they did thirty years ago. As a matter of fact, when commercial collecting was all the rage, people still chose to collect corns from N.C. to Fla. because they were naturally brighter in color. Everyone...
