"Our" groundhog doesn't seem carniverous (unless he's some kind of were-chuck...Quick: was it full moon ? No, huh.) They are surprisingly agile. I've seen them go right up the side of a wooden fence - about 8' high- and sort of shimmy down to the neighboring yard.
