    Still nothing measurable here.

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

I don't use that graphical forecast normally but checked it for my area after Scott's post. Said we were going to get over 1/4" of rain overnight and even said we would have thunder starting at 10:00 PM. And we actually got... nothing more than a light sprinkle that isn't even measurable. Maybe...

I found that wiki page yesterday too. This image from there basically shows my old "neighborhood", our house was between Fair Haven and Red Creek. I thought the drumlins were South of the old shoreline? There was a country club named "The Drumlins" near Syracuse, with lots of those bumpy hills...

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Well, they got that last forecast wrong, Sunday was the only measurable rain here (instead of the three rainy days in the forecast). But we might have a chance for something starting tonight... Tonight: Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch...

I'll never tell! :D And honestly, I don't care if I lived on a drumlin 30 years ago. But's here's a terrain viewer tip: click Share > View this location in the main boydsmaps app

    Ticks & Chiggers--a study

No idea what kind of hornets, I wasn't even sure whether they were bees, wasps or hornets but they look like the pictures of hornets I've seen. They were only a problem in that shed for two years. Have been dreading going back in there, but opened it up yesterday and didn't see any. Guess I...

I don't think so, but that is a question for a geologist (?) I guess. I was about here and thought the drumlins were the area South of me.

    Ticks & Chiggers--a study

Two years ago, I stepped out my front door and - wham - before I realized what happened, a hornet dive-bombed me and bit me on top of the head! Last year, I went into my little shed and one came down and bit me on the face - was lucky to be wearing glasses or it might have been my eye! Found the...

    Ticks & Chiggers--a study

I've seen a few full size (adult?) ticks on my clothes, hands and arms. But they're easily spotted and brushed off. No bites from them yet, with normal precautions of tucking pants into socks, etc. But those little tiny ones are something else, I guess they can walk right through the weave of my...

My old stomping grounds! I had a home and 56 acres of beautiful hardwoods in Sterling, NY for about 20 years, worked in Oswego and Syracuse. Loved it there but the winters are pretty rough.

    Ticks & Chiggers--a study

I've been getting seriously chigged for the past few days, and I'm not going through any underbrush or tall weeds, just wandering around on my little trails. Have been resisting, but going out to spray a set of clothes/shoes with permethrin now. These tiny little monsters are all over the...

The site seems to be catching on, just found this with a quick Google search. Glad that I (with my massive budget and resources) am able pick up the ball where the USGS dropped it! :D

While We Were Sleeping, Very Bad Things Happened

Sorry, not really following this thread. But a Google search for "NJ Wading Trail" led to this. Is that it? https://nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/docs/WSF_oswegowadingrivertrail_web.pdf

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Has been drizzling non-stop all day here but seems to be moving out now, just in time for an evening walk. :) Looks like we've had a little over 1/4 inch so far. Not Noah's flood, but it should lower the fire risk for a little while and give the thirsty foliage a drink.

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Some light sprinkles here right now, first we've had in awhile. Will have to see how much of those storms in Virginia and Delaware make it here. But I'll take whatever we get, it's better than nothing. :)

    Where is this?

That explains why you didn't know where Lake Pine is. :D I lived on Tabernacle Road a half mile from your screenshot for a number of years, moved to a place on Atsion Rd for a few years but left the whole area almost 20 years ago and never regretted it. I certainly didn't move because there were...

    1950's, 60's and 70's aerials

Was just too tired to upload these last night, but here they are now. Have not really spent any time just looking at them yet, but although the 1977 aerials are dark, they generally show good detail. This is a good thing in some areas that tend to be over-exposed in the other aerials. The 1968...

    It's thieving time again.

Happily, have not seen that in my area. What annoys me are the limits on self-checkout which vary from store to store, then there's only one or two cashiers open. Scanning my purchases the other day at Shoprite, it was pretty empty first thing in the morning and an employee says "Did you know...

    1950's, 60's and 70's aerials

Just a quick note that I'm not quite done yet. There are 1968 and 1977 Atlantic County Aerials on the way, maybe as soon as this evening. Have just downloaded but not spent much time looking at them. 1968 looks a bit soft but 1977 is better although rather dark. The nice thing is that they can...
