    Marsh Hawk

Well so much for consensus. The two pics I posted are the same bird. I am going with the darkness along the leading wing edge = Red Tail. (on a side note I saw some Buffleheads today...)

    Marsh Hawk

That chart is good. I have the Golden Field guide and the Audubon guide, and that does look like the Swainson's, thanks. I will try to get a better picture. EDIT: better pic... the swainsons dark color seems to go down the breast more than this. That tail is very red...

    Marsh Hawk

Any thoughts on what this may be? I am thrown by the colored band about the neck... otherwise, I would say it was a red tail.

    Mergansers, Mallards and Marsh Hawk

Someone suggested it as a place to walk my dogs and the mergansers were quite a surprise. I ended up going back without the dogs to photograph.

    Mergansers, Mallards and Marsh Hawk

This week exploring some new places, I came upon some Hooded Mergansers. I made a short VIDEO. They manage to stay just to the limit of my lens but I got a few decent shots. Also, mallards and a marsh hawk I found seeking shelter on a windy day. You can find the large sizes HERE. Enjoy.

    Phragmites

I have heard mentioned on this forum that phragmites is an invasive species. Reading this wikipedia article seems to muddy the matter and contradict this. Visiting Wells Mills lately I noticed a very small patch right next to the dock by the cabin (3'x6'). There is no other area of the lake...

Earthen Damn at Stafford Forge Burst

So they were underwater because the culvert was not draining that lake. I know how you were annotating those coordinates, but on lark I typed them into Google Earth as is, western China. ;-)

Earthen Damn at Stafford Forge Burst

So is this area above or below the dam/dike that failed?

    This Weekend at Stafford Forge

I have seen several. They stock them each weekend at a hunt club near there and about 15% get away... a good thing.

    This Weekend at Stafford Forge

Rambling 'round today (first 3 pics). I was thinking of joining you guys to see that 'mutha' tree and meet some of you, but my old girl is hitting her twilight and we go pretty slow these days. Plus, I did not know if the route would be good for dogs or you guys would be cool with that. Some...

New Jersey Losing $22,000-a-Day With Swap for Bonds Never Sold Dec. 4 (Bloomberg) -- New Jersey taxpayers are being saddled with a bill of about $657,000 a month from Bank of Montreal for an interest-rate swap approved by state officials and linked to bonds that were never sold. The...

Earthen Damn at Stafford Forge Burst

Damn...spelled dam wrong everywhere. LOL That is too bad it won't get repaired because that linked up several paths to make different routes around the area.
