My brothers and I spent many pleasant days pickerel fishing on Chatsworth Lake, I hope it's open to fishing when they get parking areas.

I've been having the same withdraw thoughts, dreaming of Batsto lake. Of course, there are NO FISH in Batsto Lake, so no one should fish there :) !

Brookhaven town is dragging it's feet on land preservation

Our first house was also a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom house, but after a daughter and a son, that had to change. Our present house is what we call a regular house (3 bedrooms). We recently started looking at 4 bedroom houses, as a parent may need to move in with us due to health reasons. I was in...

Brookhaven town is dragging it's feet on land preservation

I'm amazed at the young couples with no children yet who buy a house the same as the one we raised our family in as a "starter home".

The coastal plain ponds on ice

Thanks, nice photos. It always amazes me how much the pictures from the LI pines look like some of my favorite spots here in the SJ pines.

    Monthly Regional Cleanups

I have my favorite areas (Winslow WMA, Batona Trail around Batsto, Martha Furnace) that I try to keep reasonably clean. I think many of us do the same to the areas we frequent. If a group clean up is planned, I would try to make it.

    Gray Day in the Woods

I also went out Sunday. At one point my arms rubbing on my sides as I walked sounded loud, it was so still and quiet. Great day!

    warm weather

I worked on and off one summer at the power plant on the lake (Nine Mile Point). The guys who stayed for the winter said the lake effect snow was incredible. Never had the pleasure myself. The ocean usually keeps us milder in Jersey, but not quite as warm as it's been this year.

Thanks, really enjoyed the pics. To me, the church and cemetary at Atsion are very thought provoking.

    Cranberry Mustard

Classic candy Unfortunately, no Lunch Bars. We thought they were the best chocolate, we'd put them in the freezer and eat them frozen.

    Batsto Mansion funding

Lucky you! Was it cleaned out? My cousin works there and the first time he went up there it was pretty full of bird and bat droppings. He said it was pretty disgusting. Glad to see Batsto getting some state money. I hope it is wisely spent.

The "Nanny State" continues it's rampage on it's citizens

Over the years I have worked with many people who emmigrated from the USSR. One of the things about Americans that they find odd is how easily we will give up rights in order to supposedly feel safer. Just food for thought.

    Hunting Seasons Begin This Weekend

Pickerel "hunting" This is my favorite fishing time of the year. Cool weather and good fishing. I was out at Batsto this past Wednesday and the day was great. Shared the lake for a while with a Bald Eagle (he didn't catch anything), a Great Blue Heron (he did), had my own private air show...

    Hunting Seasons Begin This Weekend

I often go for a trail run on Saturday in Winslow WMA. Come October, I switch my trail run to Sunday afternoon. I used to bow hunt and may again in the future. I appreciate the money hunters contribute in liscense fees. That money helped buy the land we are on. It's not a big deal for me to give...

The Tracker from Tom Brown Jr.

He must be. In one of his books he says he knocked holes in a block building with his bare hands.
