Cranberry Fest and Batsto Country Living Fair

Drove through on the way to Apple Pie Hill and then hit up the Hedger House. Looked a little too wet for me and this was around 2 or 3 pm. There were quite a few people even with the weather the way it was, but nothing like the previous years.

    Sweetwater Casino?

I hear mixed info on the Sweetwater Casino. Can someone please verify if they have reopened. I'd appreciate it, as I'll be in the area and would like to stop in if possible. Thanks in advance.

    Re-Exploring the Forked River Mountains

Im back there most days walking the pooch. Funny you say the plains of Africa because whenever I explain that place to someone I describe it as "the Serengeti." Such a breath of fresh air out there.

Archery Opens Statewide Oct. 3, 2009

Been in the woods with the pup almost everyday around dusk for a few hours. It's a rare day when I dont see any deer. I've seen hunters too, but not as many as one might expect.

looking for small lake to fish

Not sure of the area you are referring to, but almost all pine barren lakes are too acidic for trout. Lots of pickerel in the area. Use google earth and I'd say about 99% of the ponds and lakes in the parks and preserves have fish. Good luck.

    We are out of control.....

I was thinking of making my pup get a job to pay off some of his vet bills, but this would be a lot better for him.

    Batona Trail

I've been in the woods doing roughly 4-8 miles a day almost everyday for the past 2 weeks (with the pup) and we haven't ran into any chiggers. That isnt to say there not out there though. Still plenty of ticks around. I'd be weary of anyone hunting along the trail, as you'd have to be an...

    Fishing today

Fish deep and slow in winter months. The fish hold in deeper water and some added weight is needed. They're still feeding though.

    Camp food recipes

Yep.. we had some bears come by our campsite there. That area gets some of the most hiker traffic back and some people really dont know how to store food properly. Once they make the humans=food connection its all downhill. Some awesome stars at that dam.

    Camp food recipes

We stopped by the Grizzly and Wolf Center last summer (got some cool pics I'll post when I get home). As Im sure you're aware 46er, many places in the High Peaks now require the canisters and do not allow bear bags anymore.. the bears were getting too smart for them.

    Camp food recipes

Missed my point.. some meals take longer to prep, cook, and clean up afterwards. If you're in bear country you might want to watch how long food stays out of a bear-safe canister or bear bag, especially at dusk. I'll cook in a dutch oven all night in the pines, but wouldnt touch one in bear...

A tough night in the pines

The full harvest moon must have brought all the idiots out. It was a nice, bright moon. Went for a nice walk in the woods.
