    Cold morning in the pines

Yah it was bitter. Finally got our new wood stove pumping and hope the cold sticks around.

    coywolf

Saw a neat black wolf in Yellowstone last year. That and a grizzly were the highlights of that trip. Amazing seeing these animals in the wild.

Anyone watching Ken Burn's America's National Parks?

I missed some, but got to catch a bit.. great stuff. Its on PBS if anyone is interested. I was lucky enough to spend 6 weeks on the road last summer and visit many of these parks. Well worth the time spent on the road.

Public service announcement for heterosexual males

I thought that kind of bologna (no pun inteneded) only happened in the movies?

    Camp food recipes

Some good meals mentioned here. Just remember its safe down here, but not a good bet cooking the elaborate meals in bear country, especially after dark. Thats all I could think of while reading some of these.

    Camp food recipes

Sometimes I enjoy breakfast better than dinner. Throw the cast iron skillet on some coals and cook some bacon, then eggs in the grease.. meanwhile keep that coffee perculator on some nearby coals. Cant go wrong doing dinner in a cast iron dutch oven either. A little more to clean, but meats...

Archery Opens Statewide Oct. 3, 2009

Talk about a comeback.. that was good. You know whats harder to understand? Wheres the challenge for these people going to the supermarket and catching a pack of burgers, hotdogs, or chicken cutlets? Like those couped-up animals ever stood a chance. Their all bulked up on feed w steroids and...

    looking for new friends

Welcome. The Dover Forge and Double Trouble area is very nice. Bamber is loaded with pickerel, but there are some bass here and there. If you're in the Bamber area try going all the way down Dover Rd until it turns dirt. Take the dirt to 539, then hang a left. Theres a lot of cool dirt...

    Waiting for YOU!

My pup had his first run-in with seed ticks last week. What a pain in the arse they were. He had a few hundred all over him, but the frontline took care of them. Apparently he walked through a patch of ticks after hatching and had them all over. I used tape on them too. There can be...

    WHAP...bap-bap!

Guess that was the commotion I saw the other morning rolling down the street. Thanks for info.. I hate turning in there from the East.

Since this topic has been brought back to life.. anyone see the old 18 foot boat some scumbag dropped off back in Carusoville? Wish the police would catch that idiot.

    North Jersey hikes

That hike is great. One of the few places to catch small wild brook trout in the state too (and the above mentioned Van Campens Glen). Love that area and The Flatbrook area in and below Stokes State Forest.. Gods Country. If you've never stopped in the Walpack Inn give that place a try for...

Garden State Wine Festival, In The Pines 9-19 and 20

We make a poopload of wine too and add nothing, not even yeast. Does this wine festival have all the NJ wineries (Garden State Wine Growers Assoc.) there so you can go from tent to tent tasting all their wine? The site doesnt say. My favorite fest is at Alba vineyard in NW NJ. We go each...

    Dead on Road Coyote

That stinks. 40 lbs sounds like a small one though.

    Electrofishing A NJ Stream

Being an avid fly fisherman, especially for trout, I've been able to witness this a few times on NW Jersey rivers. You should see some of the brutes that are in those waters. Guess thats how they got so big, no one can catch them and if they did they were released. Neat video.

    Pines Findings

Anyone been up spring hill recently? Saw some really weird circle of bones with more bones in the middle. Looked like it might have spelled something out at one point. Wonder who took the time to do that. Must have been abouit 50 bones there. All looked to be deer, but certainly not the...

    Just an observation (Rt. 539)

I was under the impression that the dirt road going back there was an easement and the private property was on the two sides of the dirt road. I've gone back there a few times but not recently. I would never go through that gated area, but Im curious if I've been trespassing the few times I've...

    what kind of frog?

If its not the type Turtle shared, my guess would be its a baby toad. They hatch in numbers and I've seen them from black in color, to the type of orange you described. They're also about the size of a finger nail. Could also be a fugitive frog from someone's house.

    BAck TO NAture

From personal experience, I find the ticks are out in full force come fall. That said, its also my favorite time to go (spring is nice too when the peepers and tree frogs are out, but the bugs suck). The hike between the three parks' campgrounds can be pretty long. Get a hold of a map with...
