    South Jersey Symposium

She wanted everything to be unrelated. This was all her idea; I just called asking if they'd let me do a signing. I didn't even know who else was going to be there until I saw it on the Borders site. I am curious about what happened to the cookbook person though. Hopefully it'll be...

    South Jersey Symposium

This weekend, Saturday 11/10, from 2-5 PM at the big Borders across from Hamilton Mall. This began as my attempt at getting a book signing. The result is 3 local authors and a local documentary maker. As per the Borders website: "Featuring: Ryan Stowinsky author of Wandering Around South...

    haunted graveyards

There are some, but not the entire cemetery is Quakers. There are some more recent stones; I forget the exact years, but there were some late 1800's in there as well. Most of the Quaker stones are placed around the base of a tree. There was a sign there with the cemetery's founding year...

    Who owns your photo's?

First off that was not one of the stock photos I had in mind; what I was going to do is barely site-related - landscapes, nature shots, etc. As for the grave, I fail to see how a picture, which has been in my seldom-looked at, crappy little CafePress shop for about a year now, with no...

    Who owns your photo's?

Nah, what I'm looking at is 2.5-4 MP. I'm considering putting pics on both Shutterstock and IStockPhoto. Bit confused with the wording though. You give up authorship yet maintain the copyright.

    Who owns your photo's?

Somewhat related, I've had a few people suggest I make some of my pics available for online stock photography. Does anyone else do this and do you think it's worthwhile? I really could use the extra money but don't want it causing problems down the road. I'm thinking about it but am hoping to...

The Wanderer 2007 South Jersey Calendar

Oh, and the 2008 calendar is up. Not a whole lot of Pines stuff this time around.

    Red Nintendo DS for sale

My red Mario Kart Edition Nintendo DS is up for auction on eBay and ends Sunday. The system is just fine; I bought the new DS Lite bundle 2 weeks ago and have no need for 2 of the same system. The auction is here if anyone is interested. It comes with the original box but is missing the...

    Who owns your photo's?

Same here. I only post scaled down, watermarked photos. Of course, that doesn't stop anyone from cutting out the bottom of the pic.

    haunted graveyards

I went to Mercy Brown's grave a few times. It's on my site and my photos of it will be in an upcoming Belgian book. The guy is following the footsteps of Bram Stoker. Supposedly Stoker got some ideas for Dracula from the Mercy Brown story.

    haunted graveyards

I'm not sure a definitive cemetery can even be found anymore. They exist, it's just that their pine markers burned or rotted away quite some time ago.

    Pine Barren T-Shirts

I've had people ask me to make up t-shirts for my Cafepress shop. The only trouble is that their base prices are already high, so any markup results in what I think are ridiculous prices. Been toying with the t-shirt thing, but figuring out the transparency and everything has been a real pain...

    In need of advice

If you want to go for it, go for it. I started college 7 years ago, did a semester and a half, and dropped out. Now, 7 years later, I'm finally back in school and pretty close to my associates. I really wish I had just finished up back then, because now I'm 25 without even an associates...

Just be glad you're in New Jersey!

While they're all much better, I still make the drive to Manahawkin rather than deal with the one in Toms River. A long line in Manahawkin is 4 people.

    john mcphees, the pine barrens

Finished it today. The last chapter made me sad. Even though it's over 40 years old and the threat of that jumbo airport is no more, it reminds you just how vulnerable the area is.

    john mcphees, the pine barrens

I finally started reading this book and finished 2/3 of it today at work. There's a good chance I'll have it done tomorrow. This is probably my favorite pines book so far. I've read the 2 Forgotten Towns and Jersey Genesis, among others. I like Beck a lot, but for some reason this just holds...

    James Ungehajer

A friend of mine had his car broken into while he was at Brooksbrae. He heard his window get smashed and ran back to find someone jumping into a small pickup and taking off.
