    CAUGHT AT APPLE PIE HILL

That's a nice video and looks like a good day. The "high wire' walking on the tower reminds me of the saying..........There are MANY bold warriors, there are some old warriors....but there are very few old bold warriors. Glad that they were not throwing TVs off the tower, spray painting stuff...

What Did the Pre-European Pinelands Look Like/

I mention Pursh because he discovered Curly Grass Fern (Schizae Pusilla) at Quaker Bridge in 1805(?) and was accompanied by a number of botanists at the time. Might be interesting to know of any other plants or commentary he had for the area...

What Did the Pre-European Pinelands Look Like/

Perhaps Jerseyman knows of some literature from that very early era in the 1700's... You have already reviewed Frederick Pursh - Flora Americae Septentrionalis - written 1816?

What Did the Pre-European Pinelands Look Like/

Great questions! I hope one of our contributors has some insight. John McPhee wrote about Atlantic White Cedar stumps that were four feet in diameter and I have read of salvage mining for cedars in swamps that used to provide massive trunks for timber use. So I would assume that pre-Europeans...

Blocking ATV Access To Spung's In Wharton

Outstanding! This is great news! Hopefully they can do this at other sites like the heavily abused "first beach" on the Mullica. Fencing a kayak/canoe drop off location and FFS water pickup area while prohibiting jerks from intentionally tearing up the remaining Cliffside would be wonderful...

    Signs of Spring

First day of Spring is Monday March 20th, right around the corner! We are pretty close to having a year without a winter. I am hoping for one nice snowstorm (but not too cold temperature wise) before Spring.

Pinelands Commmission approves natural gas pipeline this morning

Hundreds turned out once again to oppose. The last four Governors have written (twice) that they oppose it. The original writers of the CMP oppose it. The NG will have zero benefit to pinelands residents but possible leaks or worse are possibilities. I'm all for converting from coal to gas...

Enduro Club Use of the Pines

Fair enough but I was more interested in non enduro racing dual sport activities in the Pines and whether it was/is legal to drive off road on single track and firecuts. The enduro racing folks seem to have their stuff together and run a tight ship but independent riders outside of events...what...

Enduro Club Use of the Pines

Outside of the enduro races........I always thought that dual sport bikes were legally allowed at anytime on single track and firecuts....is that correct? Or has the use of single track and firecuts been allowed but not necessarily legal? Anyone know for certain? Reading the State Forest regs it...

Warm weather - Early Spring flowers?

Yeah, I've worn a jacket only twice so far this year, its certainly been very warm.. Usually a sweatshirt has been good enough. We shall see how the season ends but I will certainly be keeping my eyes open for early flowers!

Warm weather - Early Spring flowers?

Pyxie, Golden Club, Broom Crowberry some of the earliest. Winter is not over yet and we could still get a cold spell/blizzard/etc but I am wondering if this exceptionally warm weather continues if Spring will have sprung a bit early this year.

    Shoreline required for resource extraction

Yes, very intriguing. If it is an intact swamp and the wood could be carbon dated it would give a wonderful snapshot of the flora during that time in history.

    Bear or bobcat track?

Hard to tell from your photo. As Tsqurd commented it does not appear to be a bear. Here's a photo I took in Colorado of a bear print

    Shoreline required for resource extraction

Not to sidetrack your original query but a quick question.....when excavation operations like this occur do they find fossilized animal remains or uncover archaeological items? Achieving depths like that they must be delving into some deep historical timeframes.

    Interesting map - light pollution

Any thoughts on what is causing the light pollution just north and east of Jenkins on Lake Oswego Road? Is that the field study station? If so, they need to reorient their lights to face downward.
