    Lock's Bridge

So it looks like this site was mainly to power a sawmill. I too, noticed a large amount of furnace slag here, but no forge slag. I'm guessing the same thing as Gabe, and the slag was brought from another location (probably Hampton or Atsion) to help reinforce the dam. Very interesting. So if...

    Recent Vandalism at Brooksbrae

Wow. I haven't been there in a bit, but that graffiti is definitely getting worse and worse. Thanks for sharing the older photos guys, it's nice to see that place in more of a natural decay state. Just bored kids (or adults really) trying to let each other know who's roaming out there. Sucks...

Tree Cutting on Quaker Bridge Rd.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know all that about the Pine Beetle. Must be turning into a serious situation if they are starting to cut down the pine because of it. I guess they are spraying after the cutting, or at least when it's loaded on the trucks? Otherwise, yes, I could see these beetles...

Tree Cutting on Quaker Bridge Rd.

Sorry if this is already a thread somewhere on here, but I didn't see anything. Took a ride home from work through the pines yesterday and noticed about a 2 acre or so section of pine cut out of Wharton SF on Quaker Bridge Rd. about 3/4 mile outside of Atsion. It looked like anything larger...

    Gridlock Comes to New Gretna

Very cool write-up on there. I remember reading a lot about that site in Beck's Jersey Genesis. My grandfather used to fish out of Chestnut Neck all the time and always referred to the boat ramp as Cramer's. I never knew the history of the family over there and it was neat finally reading about...

Help with a face and a place

Great work guys. Some good clues in there for sure. If figure if anything, having this shot and the clues in a thread could eventually lead to something. Maybe I should even print it out to show around to a historical society or two.

Help with a face and a place

Got an e-mail back from Patty (photo owner) the other day. She writes, "Thanks Kevin for posting the picture. I posted it on the Bass River Gazette and so far nobody has been able to tell me anything. My Grandmother's maiden name was McCambridge, her grandmother McCambridge was married before...

Help with a face and a place

I've e-mailed the sending asking for any additional info that may help narrow it down. Since she said it was in her grandmother's album, who knows, maybe that was a brother or sister that worked there. Oddly enough, one of the workers bears a resemblance to my grandmother who was an Eichinger...

Help with a face and a place

Nice work guys. I don't know why I didn't even think to clean up the image first. Duh! And good point Jerseyman about the aprons being so clean. As far as glassworks go, I guess narrowing things down would involve a good look at the physical plant of the factory and trying to match up details...

Help with a face and a place

Thanks for having at it guys. I thought Smithville was a possibility also but if the brickwork doesn't match I guess that's out. Possibly Ferracute, or maybe even Roebling? Coffin & Hay glassworks near Winslow? Did the Harrisville paper plant have 2 story red brick, or was it all the sandstone...

Help with a face and a place

I got a message from a person on flickr asking for help recognizing the location in a photo she had. Personally, I have no idea, but I figured someone here might. Would anybody have any idea of what this place is? I have attached the photo and the message she sent to hopefully help with the ID...

    bay days

I heard about this, but hadn't seen any pictures until now. I know a lot of the buildings were getting worse and worse in the past year or two, but it is really horrible to see that strip with nothing. I had planned to camp out here at some point and enjoy the the sunset and sunrise in the...

    Places like Apple Pie Hill

Belcoville (Bethlehem Loading Co.) is a great place to explore and it's easy to spend a whole day there if you like exploring and you have the maps. Not to mention this time of year is perfect. Amatol (Atlantic Loading Co.) is a great place too, but only the town portion of that one is legally...

Short Cruise Under a Full Moon

Not at all. I use a Sigma 18-50 1:2.8-4.5 Lens. Very quiet. I find myself stopping at this location a lot on my way through the pines, mostly at night. Unless someone is hauling and hot rodding on the main road of course! Thanks again guys.

    Baileytown

Very nice Al. Looks like there is a lot to see, and I like how you included the owner's names. Looks like a nice peaceful walk-around... away from the road anyway. Thanks for sharing.

    Da Costa

Wow, what a cool picture. I'm not sure I ever saw a historical photograph from Da Costa. I figured it was a dot along the railroad that long since vanished along with others like Magnolia near Amatol Junction just a mile or 2 east.

Short Cruise Under a Full Moon

Thanks guys. It's been a while since I took the camera through the pines. Since the day after Irene I think. And what a huge difference! It was 26° by the time I left Batsto Manamuskin - These are long exposures with a tripod. I believe most of these varied from 1-4 minutes with various...

Short Cruise Under a Full Moon

Sorry, haven't been on here in a bit. I hope everyone had a good holiday and a Happy New Year. Been meaning to make this drive for a while now, and finally had a free night, with a full moon and great weather. Low water in the pines helped traverse the route as well. Went from Atsion...
